Cut a long story short i adopted two red pacu (sold to my mate for his 1 foot tank as pirahna along with 4 clown loaches (told him to see me before buying but would he listen) anyway all these were purchased same day as tank
cut a long story short 2 months down the line the "pirahna" are 3 times the size and are obviously not pirahna , lfs wouldnt take back so i adopted them for my 150g aro growing on tank (with the intention of selling/passing them on to someone with a more suitable home for them
i became attached to them and have had them 6 month now they used to get on fine (as have all pacu i have kept in the past) but recently the larger fish has started attacking the smaller fish to such an extent that he is battered and bruised (realy badly) and spends whole time hiding behind a large group of plants. When i get up on a morning they are shoaled together as usual and the smaller comes out to feed and they feed together as usual it is just the rest of the daylight hours that the larger is showing agression. Is it because i have two males ? is their anything i can do? none of the other fish are effected by the pacu (2 silver dollar, 2 bubble nest cats small aro)he just picks on his friend.

is their anything i can do ?

i was going to put them in the 7ft tank with the arro but if they are going to fight i dont want my arro disturbed in any way!

any ideas on how to make them play nice

There are two things you can do, the first and most effective would be to add more pacu to the tank to strengthen the shoal bond and spread aggression, in the wild these fish would be in much larger groups than is possible to keep in a home aquarium.
The second is to add more decor in the way of tall pieces of driftwood and imitation vines etc to break up lines of sight and give the bullied fish some free space to hide in although if the aggressor is persistant this may not help.

I would try giving them more space (adding them to the 7-foot tank), get more pacus, and add some more decor to serve as protection/hiding places for the pacus (as CFC said).

We have 2 in one of our tanks and you know that I have never seen them poop (that may be how they get so big so fast )so I can see my wanting to eat them .
