Pacman Frog

How do you guys heat the place? I once bought one without thinking, and killed it because I couldn't heat the place!

Yeah... sorry about that Vancover, I was drinking that night and didn't quite know what I was saying...

Anyways... Frozen pinky mice are better because as metion by Vancover, live mice will bite... Pacmans seem to be a great pet, but only handle them as often as absolutly needed... I keep my tank heated ATM with a incandesent bulb, but I'll be getting an under-tank heater ASAP, this is the best bet to keep them alive.

It's now day 3 since I've got him and he seems happy and right at home ^_^ I've bought a temperature gauge and hydrometer today, so hopfully all is well, I also bought frog moss and fake plants yesterday, so I'll get some new shots and post em ASAP aswell :)

Thanks to all that have commented thus far, Shade's doing great and he seems as happy as can be :)

Undertank Heat Mat from the reptile section of the pet store i believe. which reminded me....

I may eventually have to get one for my fiddlers. How does the mat work...does it go under your tank? if so wouldn't the cord get squished by the weight of the tank or does it go under the substrate at the very buttom of the tank?

I bought a undergravel heater for my fiddler tank. It goes underneath the sand and it was only like 10 us dollars. :good:

Umm actually the under tank heaters go on the outside of the tank, they usually come with spacers, so it's lifted off the ground/stand about 1/4", the cord hangs out and gets plugged in and there you have it ^_^

Also, crabberdude, I hope you know that Fiddlers are brackish/light saltwater, crabs and they do require a place to get out of the water... although I'm certain you do know because of your name lol, also, a heater in the tank would probably be easiest opposed to an under tank heater.

I dont know if you are talking to me but I said undergravel heater and those DO go under the substrate. And yes, crabberdude is aware of all of these things as am I. His water is brackish and he has a beach for the crabs as well. We have very little room for heater which is why we are discussing undergravel heaters. Check out the aquarium pics section if you want to see his setup. My setup will be posted tonight when I pick up my crabs.

wopps sorry, read that as under TANK heater, not undergravel heater. My bad...

Well, I've had him for little under a week now and he's healthy and happy ^_^ as with all Pacmans he's found his spot in the tank and rarely ventures far from it lol. He's eating solidly now so all is well :) Will update with pics as soon as I find my camera.

hmmm. i don't feel like taking the water, sand, and wood out of my tank right now...I just changed my set up lol. do UNDER-TANK heaters work well? my tank has about 5 inches of sand on one side and about 4 inches of water on the other side. is that too deep for the heater to be able to work properly?

if not i may just have to cowboy it up and get an under-gravel heater. :p

Something you might be able to do is a heating wire. I don't know a ton about them, but they're mentioned in my planted tank book, and fishing a heating wire under the gravel will probably be easier than removing all the gravel for a under-gravel heater.

Crabber,
You wont have to if you can just find a small undergravel heater. I am guessing you only have 3 gallons or less of water in the tank? So you just need a real small one like I Got. It is 4 inches long and about 2.5 inches wide. Really thin. Imagine a postcard attatched to a cord, and you just slide it underneath the sand and water. Took me 30 seconds. Did that make any sense? I can try to get you a pic of the heater online if not...

Drew

Edit-This isnt the model I have but this is how they are shaped http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/group/10464/product.web
You just slide the little mat under the sand.
