Earlier Orion really seemed thrilled in his tank, and even was working on a little bubble nest for awhile, but I notice the past couple hours or so he seems to be... well I don't know how to describe it other than it has the appearance of pacing along the edges of his tank. He swims back and forth and dances around along the sides as if he's trying to see if he can swim through them. Is this a normal behavior when in a new home? Could something be wrong? I just worry, he seems to be expending a lot of energy

Hmmm I think he is just exploring, which is perfectly normal and a good thing. Just continue to keep an eye on him. ;)

I remeber one of my females did that and my MG does that a lot (in fact he is doing it right now). They usually go up too th fron side of the tank and swim back and forth, I think it is a natural thing and it is healthier that a betta laying on the floor. IMO i think the betta is cheking out the outside world that is constantly moving.

Ok thank you guys! I figured I was probably being over paranoid. Draco does it too, just not as vigorously. Orion has had a more gung ho nature since I got him, he flares very easily, even at the Hikari Bio-Gold package :D.

Amos used to do that.
In fact, he did that non-stop for 4 months, except when I was looking in at him, when he came over and flared at me.
