Just bought a Juwel 190 litre tank without a stand.
The tank is 3ft 4" in length and i've put it on a computer desk which is very sturdy and width wise is plenty but the tank is hanging over each edge by 4 inches.
What's your opinions on this?
I've done it before with smaller tanks but this is a little bigger.
Personally i think it's ok but i'd like a second opinion...thanks.

Well my tank has some overhang, and I'm honestly a bit concerned about it. The front glass is a bit warped now (a new stand is on my list of things to purchase ASAP). You are at risk for the tank bending and breaking.

I'd never keep a tank that has any over hang whatsoever, it's just a risk I'm not willing to take for the sake of the fish as well as the gallons of water that might ruin my floors.  Get a stand pronto.

In a pinch you can put a piece of 1/2 inch thick wood that's the proper length under the tank to help distribute the weight better while you search for a more permanent solution.

A lot of the juwel tanks have a floating base, with a rim that's designed to stand with the bottom clear of the stand.

If it's one of those then it should, in theory, hate being in that set up.

i would definatly put something strong underneath it that covers the whole foot print of your tank. Even an inch over hang can put way more pressure on your tank than what its ment to handle. You'd be surprised how much extra leverage 10lbs has over just a few inches.

Second or third the idea of purchasing some thick plywood in the meantime, and ASAP.

Obviously not the same scale but have you seen fluval edge tanks?

They are designed with about 3 inches of overhang all the way round, I'm thinking yours would just be of a larger scale.
I think you don't need to worry...

Thanks guys.
It won't let me upload a photo because it's too large.
It is playing on my mind and i will get a stand that fits ASAP.
I was thinking of making one out of 3x2 wood but looking on E-bay for one now.
The brand new ones are way too dear for me at the moment.
And yes. it is one of those tanks with the floating edge.

Overhanging actually isn't that bad depending on how much is overhanging... 4 inches is fine...

4 inches is enough to break a single pane of 1/8" glass with a simple 5lbs on top of it. People seriously underestimate the force of leverage. Take a gallon of milk, hold it out 4 inches from your body. Don't lock your muscles either, and see how long you can hold it there. Now do that with about 3-4 gallons. You'll see what I mean. Unless your like superman or a strongman competitor..

I would get a stand, or build something (good to hear that you already plan to do so). That overhang puts extra stress on the bottom, not to mention the silicone (will promote panel shifting over time)

In the mean time I would avoid filling it.

Thanks again guys.
The stand is getting built as we speak. It was only ever a temporary measure using what i have due to not having a stand with it.
I do know people who have had tanks with overhang issues and it has been fine, just as long as the majority of the length is supported and the whole width but i do understand about 100% support which i would always do, especially with larger tanks.
