Outdoor Water Garden

ive been thinking of making an outdoor water garden out of a big 50 gal tuberware storage container or something. i was going to add a filter made for 50 gal or so and in the container i was jut going to have a water lilly and a whole bunch of anacharis(SP) and some large rocks. i was just wondering how many comets can go in here. by my understanding of the "rule" i can have 4 correct.....would i be able to push it up to 5 cuzz i prefer odd numbers of fish.

For young comets then two but you could get away with three for a year or so.

Of course this is just my opinion.

thanks. if i get a bigger filter(say one made for up to 100 gal) would i be able to get more of them.

Its more of a size thing with comets as far as im aware, if you go for one of the smaller fancy varietys of fish instead of comets you would probably be able to fit many more goldfish in the 50gal depending on what variety they were. Overal though, if i were you i'd just dig longer pond, then you could have loads more comets.

if you can cycle the water at twice the rate per hour.. 100 gallons per hour for a 50 gallon tub then yes you can have 4 or 5 2-3 inch comets. Start them off small and they will only grow to the size of your pond "tub" but I wouldn't put in 4 or 5 5-6 inch fish...heck I wouldn't put in more then 2 at that size for such a small tub. Maybe you could find a 100 gallon tub... then you would be better off and could put in 5 or 6 3-4" fish...

The plant set up sounds good though and only one good sized lilly plant in a 50 gallon tub is good.
