Our Tanks And Friends

That 8ft tank you have gone out and bought is a waste of money for the fish you plan on keeping in it. The dimesions are crap. For 1 there is no way on earth you can keep any arowana in there let alone a silver the tanks is only 8ftx19"x24" the width of that tank means you cant really keep any fish in there that get more that 13" say as fish do need to turn around. I think you really do need to do your homework on fish a bit more the stocking you have got for 1 is not right you can see in your pics that the oscars fight. YOu need to rehome you arowana or look at getting a tank of around 96x36x24 minimum but like I have said to you before if you want to keep other mid to top leval fish you need to go deeper or the arowana will go on a bullying spree. Also you dont have enough filtration 1 fx5 wont be enough you need to look at 2 for big messy fish.

Well all i can say is that the FX5 filters 1500L and my tank is 714L thats over half the filter again!

I have asked about not just on this site!!!! this is the only place i have had negative comments we know this tank will not be long term because of the width!!! we have been keeping fish for nearly 2 years we have two tanks and a raised pond we have not had any major probs!

The Oscars in the picture where they are fighting! was on one day! and they get on fine for 99% of the time!!! no body else has told me to get rid of my fish so lots of other people have them same fish as i plan to stock with and they have not reported any fish killing each other, With teratorial fish you are bound to have a few squables and belive me if i thought it was serious then we would rehome all of them!!!!!

so i hope i have set your mind at rest!

Trust me if you are keeping big messy fish you will need two fx5`s I run 2 on my tank and 2 internals to polish the water. As for your stocking its crap your just throwing any fish you can think of that gets big into a tank and hoping it gets along. Most of the people on here dont keep big fish that ones that do have not posted in your threads except me. No body else will tell you your setup is bad as they dont have much of an idea. People on here with big tank and big fish are me, Cane76, CFC, and T1KARMAN also paul_mts. All of these people will tell you that your tank is no good for the fish you want to keep. Mid swimming fish I doubt will work in your tank as the arowana WILL be massivly aggressive not on a fin nipping scale I mean will kill other fish it will take out the BGK in a second. If you want to keep other fish safely with the aro the a deeper tank needs to be on the cards. Your width is a problem the oscar really is the only fish that could live in the full term your aro will find it hard to turn with in 1 year. You really do need to asses what it is your doing and not just look for the posts of people telling you wow cool tank awsome.

Just look at your stocking and ask your self are you someone who really knows what there doing????

Umm mark, just to clear up, but the oscars in the pic might not be actually fighting, alot of cichlids usually start to lock lips when they're ready to breed. (ime anyways.) But other than that I agree with most, if not all of what you said.

I gotta agree with Mark here, yes its a nice size tank in length, but the thing most people forget about is width, this is essential for large fish to be able to turnaround in, especially with something like an Arrowana which will always be swimming about.

If you really want to keep big fish, Mark, T1k, CFC, Cane and Paul_mts are the guys for advise, mostly everyone else will just give you the "fish looks nice" answer and not the hard facts about large fish keeping. Yes the FX5 will do blah litres, but thats on an idea setup which would be understocked, you are trying to stock that tank with serious waste producers therefore if it were me id also have 2 filters.

I would have a serious think about the best welfare of the fish, and maybe rehome the randoms and Arrowana until you can provide a home that is totally suitable for them :)

well what do you think about having a new piece of glass on the bottom and sides?????? my bf has to work with sillicolne at work so he is good at that side of thing do you think it would be possible to change tank size????

Nope if you make that tank any bigger you will need to make the glass bigger it will need to be made into 12mm glass and I suspect you have 10mm max.

well i got some more picture's of the Arowana do you timk there is a differance in 2 week?
