Our Plecos

 i think i fallin in love with the cute little fish, yours are gorgeous. i am definately going to have a couple when my tank evenually finishes its cycle. is there a limit on how may you can have, are they agressive at all?

Nice collection :)

Your bristle nose dosnt look like a common by the way.... might be worth a look about to see if you can ID him ;)
As far as we know he's just a plain old Bristlenose, thats what we brought him as.
We've got a friend who works at an lfs popping in this week, I'll double check with him. :)

this is a "common" Ancistrus Sp3.

Yours has a strikingly different pattern! :)

Looks like it could be an Ancistrus Claro - PC Link
Have you seen its mouth? it is longer and flatter rather that round?
[/edit]
You've really got me wondering now! I've just compared him to my other two Bristlenoses and the markings are different.
I noticed on the claro that it says they get to just over 2 inches but ours is probably just over 3.
I'm going to have to do a bit of hunting now. It's not like our lfs to sell us something other than they say it is!
Thanks for pointing it out. :D

Hi chardonnay1000,
It all depends on what sie tank you have as to the number you can keep. We have the Bristlenose?, Green Phantom, Snowball, Magnum and L205 in a 42g tank at the moment. In our 21g tank we have 2 Bristlenose, Candy Striped, Queen Arabesque and Leopard Frog. These are temporary homes until we get our 90 odd gallon tank after Christmas. Fortunately, apart from the L205 they are all juveniles so they have plenty of room but we want to move them as soon as possible to the bigger tank.
None of the Plecos have shown any aggression but they have got plenty of hiding places and seemed to have staked their claim on certain areas! Now and again the Green Phantom will bump the Snowball out of his way but we've had no problems.
If you end up getting any you'll have to post pics for us all to drool at! :)

Ancistrus sp3 are probably one of the most variable plecs you can get, because they're basically tank bred fish mongrels ;)

Check out all the different markings on these, and different shapes, sizes etc. I dont mean brown vs. albino, I mean amongst their own colour type - there's a tonne of variety.

My sp 3 doesn't look like yours, or the pic posted by smithrc. It's still a sp 3 though ;)

I'm going to stick my neck on the line here. Does your ancistrus have any signs of bristles? I know it could be a female, but the body shape (tail in particular) doesn't even look ancistrus to me in that pic.

How long have you had him?

Hi Kathy,
No sign of bristles and we've had him for about 2 months. I'll see if I can post a better picture of him close up. :)

Hi Kathy,
A couple more pics I found!

I did wonder from the first pic, but looking at the last pic, he ooks Ancistrus sp. 3 after all from his markings and tail (classic white edge).

Thanks everyone for the nice comments and for trying to identify her,
I've had a look through some pictures and still don't know what to think so we'll keep calling her a Bristlenose! :)

It may be just me....

but your queen arabesque looks more like a royal tiger to me with those more so spaced out lines....

just something to look into maybe?

edit: looking at some pictures, it most definatly isn't a queen arabesque IMO. The lines are closer on a queen than on him

Check out L 066's and L260's and you might see the differance?

I agree - Markings are too spaced out - either an 066 (King Tiger) - or possibly an L333

I think you could be right! I'm a bit gutted to be honest because I really wanted a Queen Arabesque. Oh well, more than happy if it is a King Tiger and a good excuse to go and buy a TRUE Queen!
Thanks for your help. :)
