From the begining
Well thought better do this before i forget. After being turned down by my own daughter for a free rio 180
(dispite the use of evil blackmail)
I decided to go on the hunt for a fishy tank to use for my marine need.
Not havin alot of money I scanned ebay for a bargin and eventually found our tank, a leaking scratched
aquatlantis that we got for £25 I liked the stand and trim thought I'd get it and have a new tank made to
the same size but taller so I could use the trim and stand. Still when we got it home we decided to repair
it for now (no money) and upgrade it at a later date. Well we cleand it cut out all the mastic redone the
mastic, waited 48 hours then filled it up and no leaks!! yea!!
left it full for 1 week just to make sure and
all was good..
Next purcase was a skimmer, an Aquarium systems by instant ocean at a cost of £9. (ebay) This turned out to be
of no use as it would not hang properly on the tank and due to the hight before the water it just kept making bubbles..
(in tank) So decided to use the pump (maxijet 1000) till I get a bigger one.
heater 250 watt £12
Next came the l/r. wasn,t really ready for it but got 25Kg £71. So dashed down to the lfs to get the salt water.
We got the rock not alot on it as it was mainly used as base rock, rock went in then out then in out
(make ur mind up I said) back in. we also brought 3Kg extra that had lots of life on to seed the rest..
Then got the seio m620 powerhead 2400 litre's £17 (ebay shop New).
Think there £59 with a magnet.
Next was the skimmer Deltec mce 300, £29 (Ebay ,found this by accident was written diltic 300 no one bid)
Then came the external filter which was packed with l/r and carbon (lfs said would be good).. £9 (ebay)
Refractometer aquamedic (rhs10atc) brand new on ebay, lost out at £13. So whilst lookin for another one I got a second
chance offer for £12 so grabed it..
Test kit had to go with the cheaper Api liquid marine for now (will get better eventualy) £15
last Equipment purchase was lighting. I allready had the 36" t8's fitted but wanted to change to t5's so I brought
a twin 39 watt Arcadia t5 ibar with nearly new marine white bulbs £12(ebay again) ripped out the guts fitted it to the
original bar then found out the
only 36" t5's you can get are 45 watt jeuwel high lights(not good). Well ripped it all back out again put back the original
t8 fitting but swaped the old ballast's over with me kitchen one so there now t8's with electronic ballast (not so hot)
fitted, and the 2 t5's fitted as well..
So now my question for today ive got the 2 t8's with 30 watt white tubes , and the 2 t5's 39 watt 1 blue 1 white.
My lfs said to run the t8's with white and both t5's as blue as this would be better for the corals. Is this right?
p.s. all have individual reflectors...
