I got a couple of ottos Monday and they are happily munching algae in quarantine now. I've read the posts concerning them but I'd like any info people have picked up while caring for these little darlings.

I have a couple of ottos in my guppy tank which I've had for about 2 months. I feed them algae wafers and they like little places to hide. I sometimes put some cucumber in the tank for them which they love and will happily sit on and eat for ages! Other than that, they pretty much take care of themselves it seems. :)

A planted tank is best for these little guys. They like to rest on leaves and also eat the algae that grows on leaves. Non aggressive tank mates are best. Mine eat anything from algae to shrimp pellets I feed the cories. They also love cucumber, courgette, potato (all blanched of course) and I have noticed the females eat meat (frozen shrimp) just before spawning. They are lovely additions. Don't expect a algae free tank with these little guys. Although they eat for most of the day, they don't really eat all that much.

:D

Well so far so good. They really enjoy hanging from the plant and are little eating machines. When I got them they were thin and now have the cutest little pot bellies so I think they are doing well. They are now going on the tank sides as well as hiding among the plant leaves.

I've got 7 of them and they do love algae wafers and fresh vegetable. I don't have a lot of plants (fake or real) but they do like to stick around on my driftwood a lot. Give them plenty of places to rest on. Plants are best but wood works too.

Great. The tank they will eventually fo in has several pieces of driftwood and some plants. Hopefully they will do well there.

I have 3 Ottos and they are fantastic and fasinating to watch.

Mine dont stop eating and love cucumber and when there is a slice on it all 3 of them attack it :D

Mine seem to like laying on my plants or hanging out on my driftwoord. They dont seem to like the rocks as much.

But they are defiently awsome.

I only have one. Thinking of adding more. Anyone knows how they breed? Or sexing them?
