Oscars

remove your tankmates, Plecs, catfish cichlids or any other fish it will help the oscars as it will keep them stress free and it will prevent them from worrying and eating there eggs. you could get dead tankmates as the oscars could get aggressive.

congrats onthe eggs.

wow talk about complete turn around.

WAY TO GO!! :band: :drink:

Im totally shocked, the parrots are holding their own at the moment, their terrotory is at the other end of the tank, the problem I have is the plecs, they are sort of trapped, they are in a slate cave system i made which is exactly were the oscars have laid the eggs, so they are trapped and the Oscars are deffinatly keeping them at bay, one as come out and I feel so sorry for him as he goes one end and is attacked by the parrots, he goes the other and the oscars are not pleased to see him, im getting a little tank to put them in tommorrow so I cant do anything until then, but i will probably only be able to move the plec who is out because the Oscars wont even let me look into the tank let alone put my hand in, i fed them earlier looked in the top and the big one kept jumping out at me.

Heres a few pictures of them taking with my webcam, the last one is of the eggs on the slate.

Those are some brilliant fish, well done. This really makes me want to get a nice 200 gal tank and keep oscars myself!

Thankyou, as this is my first egg laying im going to let nature take its course and leave them in the tank to grow and observe them rather than take them out into a seperate tank.

Hopefully i will be posting pics soon of the little ones.

A shop near me has (or at least had last time i was in) a breeding pair of Oscars not dissimilar to yours, the fry look nothing like the parents to begin with, and are really quite small. What are you planning on feeding the little fish? I would say baby brine shrimp in the first instance. Get some cultures going the day they hatch so you're well ready by the time the yolk sacks have been absorbed. Best brine shrimp hatchery is a 500ml coke bottle (other similar pop bottles are available) Run an open ended airline into the solution to keep the brine shrimp eggs moving, then in a day or so you can harvest the little shrimp. As for as products go, sera do ready made sachets with the salt and brine shrimp eggs ready mixed. Just add water and wait a couple of days.

Ive started with micro worm, and i have got a mix called aquifry 1.

looked at the eggs this morning and some are furring over. Im not overly confident with this batch of eggs at the moment.

Right quite confused now

Took the eggs out late yesterday evening as the eggs were all furring over so seperated them to keep eye on them, got home today and the oscars have layed more eggs, and not only that the parrot fish have layed eggs, but i am under the impression the parrot fish are infertile.

Thats good news, 2 batches of eggs at the same time from different fish :hyper:

There is a med you can buy to stop fungus, can't remember what its called atm  but it does work, iv'e tried this on my cory eggs.

keep us updated :good:

I read hydrogen peroxide is good for keeping fungus off as well.

Ive just read about this, will this be ok to use with my other fish or can it affect them, and due to light being a big cause of the fungus should I keep my lights off for a few days.
