I have 2 very large angelfish and am ready to introduce a baby oscar into my aquarium with the aim of growing onto adulthood. Do you think that this will be sucessfull. I introduced 2 baby convict cichlids into the tank at a very small size as they were two that i have spawned myself. Both males and now the larger at 3.5". They have sucessfully been kept with very small fish inc. guppies and neon tetras with no problems at all, just the occasional "Banter" with the Angels but never any contact.

I feel that this is because they were introduced at a small size and grown on. I have a 14" giraffe catfish which is still with black neon tetra and has never attacked or eaten any other fish.

Has anyone else had similar experiances???
Any oppinions would be very helpful

Thanks

could do with knowing the size of your tank before we say what can and cant go in it.

its not a good idea to keep anything that can fit in an oscars mouth in the same tank as it.

even bigger fish are at risk. my oscars always trying to take a bite out of who ever gets close enough and that included 6" silver dollars and 10" chalceus.

not such a good idea because the oscaars grow quick trust me.....then they hit pubity n get aggresive and angel fish prob wouldnt stand up to them.....
you could always go with those festivum cichlids or even uros

 No you cannot keep Oscars with Angels. The aggression levels are completely different!

It won't be long before the oscar has ripped most of the nice flowing fins off of the angels. Oscars are great at ripping off filter intakes, heaters, tearing up plants, and generally setting up the aquarium to suit them.

I got my oscar at the same time as I set up my tank that had 3 angels in it my oscar died very suddenly last week he was 10in but my point is I didnt have a problem for two years it could be as they all grew together or I had well tempered oscar who knows anyway i miss him he had a great charactor good luck

i wouldn't do it, cichlids temprements vary massively from one fish to another, so while it may theoretically be possible it would take a very peaceful oscar to not eat them. the chances of getting one are incredibly slim, the chances of your angels being a tasty snack are very high

I'm the exception to the rule as I have one angel in my oscar tank. They have grown up together and my Oscar has never had a bite at the Angel. I have even witnessed the Oscar pushing the Angel out the way with its mouth (closed!).

It all really depends on the Oscar and its character as each one is different. But to generalize I would say no and do it at your own risk.

I dont think Oscars are that bad guys, my red devil hammerd the crap out of my oscar so bad he had to be removed and put in isolation untill he healed And I gave it one more shot, same result. I wouldnt even hardly call it a fight, the oscar tried to fight back but all the damage was completly one sided, I had to give my oscar to a friend to prevent his cartain death.

at what size do they normly do this?

All cichlids have different character.. some oscars are complete wussies, while others are territorial monsters.

Would I personally try an oscar with angels? no.

I don't think it's worth risking,

but theres quite a difference between an angel and a red devil.
Sam had a point there, they are not even comparable. My 8 inch+ oscar could easily mush a adult angel fish to peices. He's cut me quite deep (well peersing straight through my skin) on my fingers and hands lol!

Agreed. As stated festivums may be a bit better, they're more cichlid like and more active than angels. I have them with my oscar atm and no probs. Not sure about them when the oscar gets bigger though.
