Oscars & Tank Size

I have one Tiger Oscar who is going on 9 inches now. He is just fine in the 25 gallon...although he's ate every fish/crab ive ever put in :).

well i might as well have got the oscar as the shark i got to console myself on not having a big enough tank... its an Iridescent shark and can grow up to 1.3 M hmm how big is that in feet? oh my word thats 4 ft 5" can you immagin me housing that in a 4ft tank??? no i think i will have to take that one in this weekend.i dont think there are tanks that will house that how irrisponcible of them to just sell me that ... i mean they had about 12 of them and i expectthey where due to go out that day so there are more than likely a bunch of outher people like me who have a soon to be enormouse fish.

Here's the deal with irridescent sharks.................

Although they can attain an adult size of up to 4ft, they rarely would in all but the largest aquarium!!

The problen with them is that they need to be in groups of 4-5 or more to remain calm. They are very skiddish fish and will continually ram into the sides of the tank doing harm to themselves.

These fish, if I remember from previous post of mine about these fish are in the catfish family and are raised in ponds as a food fish!!

Sorry about your trouble with it, but you are wise to return it!!

Its gorgeouse its not ramming the sides but it is extreemly nervouse im thinking of building a huge tank nearer the end of this year. not for any fish i have atm but for some other type of cat not shure which one to go with will worry about that once i build the tank. the reason it would ram the sides, i think its because of reflections it happens with other fish also perhaps some cichlids perhaps you have seen some similar behavior.im trying to avoid by keeping the light outside the tank nearly as bright as the light in the tank.
