i have a baby oscar in one of my tanks and will be moving him to my larger tank when he out grows the current one. in my big tank i have a very large kissing gourami and i have just seen a comment in another thread saying that a large gourami would go well with an oscar!!???? is this correct as i was going to start making plans to rehome the kisser. be fab if i can keep him. all comments welcome.

p.s the kissing gourami is about 8 inches.

If your tank is 6 feet long it might be ok.. but in a 4 foot tank 2 12'' fish doesn't really give them lots of space if they get mean.

Kissers are kinda unpredictable I think.. I've seen a 10'' kisser in with small goldfish.. but have heard some people say theirs are aggressive.

It's probably something you'll have to try out and see.

I would've actually started the oscar out in the bigger tank.. and if he is small enough and grows up with the gourami you might get away with no altercations. Ours grew up with a giant danio and is big enough to eat him now, but hasnt even tried, not that he could catch it but...ya know what I mean. I dont know gourami's temperments, so I couldnt answer the compatiblity question, but I would move your oscar in the bigger tank now just so that he has ample room to swim, which he will probably outgrow the smaller tank in no time flat.

are all those fish staying in the 4ft tank or will you rehome them when the oscar moves in?

its already pretty full as it is and its not the best stocking :/

all the african cichlids you have need a higher PH and what do you mean by the small version of a BGK?

BGK grow to 20" full stop. there isnt a smaller version.

sam i think he means the african brown knife, or something like that all i know is that it isnt a bgk is a brown knife something

what is your stocking right now? and what are you getting rid of?

*edit: i just read your list of fish..and wow..clown loaches need to be in a group of 4 or more and need 100 gallons+

fish:
1 parrot
3 zebras 1male 2 fem cichlids - huh?
clown loach - need to be in a group of 5 or more needing 100 gallons+
firemaouth cichlid - spelling
black knife fish (the small version) -do you mean african brown knife?
jewel cichlid
yellow lab - needs higher pH
red tailed shark

clown loaches need a tank that size when they are fully grown yes, but mine arent and they are such slow growers there fine for a while. the tank stocklist is a old so have done new one. last but not least im beginning to become fed up with certain members constant criticism on this forum. enough said.

thanks for the useful comments. james B)

Well Sam, those people always have to be right...Didnt you know that? Just so you know, you can say they are fine til youre blue in the face but the truth is they might not be able to grow if their tank is too small. Just accept the input people are giving you because most of it is helpful. Also, if you know so so much why are you asking questions like this?

an anser like vancouvers was all that was needed...usefull info is wat forums are here for...not critcism on spellings ect. and if i thought it all then i wouldnt be asking questions would i...the 2 replys are an example of the crap some people put in and give usefull sites like this a bad name.end of story. thanks for all of the positive replys and info. james

The only positive info is the info that you want to hear. There is plenty of other info given to you that you are saying is useless and wrong when it is really true. Im not here to argue, all im saying is how do you know the other info isnt helpful or true when you were the one asking the question? Why would you ask if you already know whats right and wrong?

I think sometimes via the internet criticism and constructive criticism are hard to distinguish...

In the end I believe everyone is just trying to help.. it's just sometimes hard to take things for what they are when reading something someones typed.

I agree on the clown loach front. With the OP that is. No, really!

Clown loaches are incredibly slow growing, mine are a year old now and only about 5". I have 5 altogether, in my Rio 300 with 4 baby sevs, a bristlenose, a rusty plec and a flash plec.

I'll be going up to a bigger tank as/when I know which sevs are getting along with which, but TBH, my clown loaches spend the whole day hidden, and most certainly dont need a 100g tank just for themselves.

But no, an oscar wont live in that size tank on it's own, let alone with companions. You need a 6ft tank probably. Might be worth rehoming the oscar and getting something smaller?

ok..how about this, your tank looks and sounds great i hope you enjoy your new oscar and hope that all of your fish will live happily for all of their lives

is that as good as vancouvers?

to get to the point, i gave you constructive criticism, on your fish list nowhere did i bash you i just pointed a few things out, i only helped you to correct your spelling..guess thats not a good thing

please enlighten me with your new fish list and i will try my best to control my outrageous behaviour and only give you the advice you want to hear

Lighten up - since when were you appointed spelling teacher? Some folks aren't the best spellers, or the best typists, doesn't mean you have to point it out by typing "spelling" next to it.

Try some manners, people are more likely to listen to your advice if you're polite!
