Oscar tank size???

I was just wondering because i have a friend who isnt too educated on fish keeping...he has had his ocsar for over a year now and keeps it in a 10 gallon tank. The fish is about 7 to 8 inches long and seems very healthy

He said he was going to upgrade to a 20 gallon and i wasnt sure if that was big enough so thats why i asked on here... He doesnt have alot of money to spend so hopefully i can convince him to buy a 55 or bigger

In Ebay, you can set it so it will search within X miles of you, and email you any time a new tank comes avalible. Thats eventually how I found mine. Another thing you can do is look on www.craigslist.org. This is like an online clasified ads section. One of my friends told me about this, and if I hadn't won this auction, i was going to try to buy a 45 gal tank, stand, hood, filter, and heater for like $50-70.

Just gotta be patient and shop around

I went to the lfs today.................Somebody had left an extremely large (probably around 10" from nose to tip of the tail) red oscar in a 5 gallon bucket at the shop's door before they opened. Yep.............a BUCKET. They've put him in a tank by himself. Think he tangled with something though from the looks of him. One of his eyes is out and he has huge scratches(?) on one side. They medicated the tank he's in. The sad(der) part? They didn't offer him to a good home..............they have him up for sell for $10 with no gaurantee.

For an adult Oscar the tank should really be 18" deep and 48" long, if you want to provide him a decent home. Technically they can be kept alive in a tank as small as 20 gallons, if you don't mind mistreating the fish and don't care how long they live for.
