So...

Ive read pretty much every article i could find on Google about Oscars. my mom is planning on getting a 150+ gallon fish tank so she can get a couple Oscars.

I know how to arrange the tank, i know what to feed them, i know how many to get. there is alot of confusion ( at least on my part ) as to what fish i can keep with them.

my mom really likes arrownans (sp? ). i asked my LFS if they could be kept together and he said 50-50 chance that one will kill the other.

i was thinking about a bala shark or a blue wale, also some clown loaches ( ill buy them already large, so the oscar doesnt think they are snacks. )

im just looking for what people who keep Oscars have had success with.

Thanks for any help.

good luck with the blue whale

you may get more replies in the new worlds section...i dont think an arrowana would be a good idea personally

i wasnt sure what section to post this in...

i decided this section cause i was asking about the arrownan

Arowana i would say no unless your upgrading in the future as they get big, lots of people sucsessfully keep the both together, clown loaches will need to be big as clowns take forever and a day to grow where as oscars grow at the blink of an eye, I kept mine with tinfoil barbs/silver dollars/holpo catfish/senegal birchir/chocolate cichlid/gibbicep plec/bala sharks without any problems....

when you say blue whale i think your refering to the Mormyridae family which i dont think is a good idea to mix these two, i beleive the Mormyridae family give of electical impulses.....

Clown loaches would also be expensive, at full size you probs looking around £80upwards

I currently have 2 small (about 3") Oscars with angel fish and large mollies which all get on fine at the moment but I will have to have a re-think when they grow a bit

LOL what size tank? You know your 3" Oscar will hit 7" within about 4-6 months don't you!

SeanW - A large plec, silverdollars, tinfoils, maybe some larger bichir are ok as Oscar tank mates. Be careful getting more that 1 Oscar - do you have a good home for one if they fight?

Hi mate my oscars are a stocky 9-10 inches at the moment, up until this week they lived well with silver dollars, clown loach, reedfish, bichir, BGK,Fire Eel, Clown Knife

These two I have are very laid back however I;ve had an oscar in the past which has justturned nasty for no reason an killed plecs and tinfoils etc

I have that setup currently. The arrowana is about 12" long and the oscar is maybe 4". There is some aggression from the oscar, but so far that I noticed no damage on the arrowana. I'm keeping a close look on those 2...

Draconis,

Thanks for your input, I appreceiate it cause you have the setup I want. Keep me updated and post some pictures.

tbh it doesn't sound like the tank is going to be anywhere near big enough for a silver or black arrowana, which are your only two options

As for the case above, both species are still juvis so can be expected to be living ok together, However the tank is far too small and unless the upgrade is about 5 times bigger, it is almost guaranteed to end in disaster.

My uncle had a fully grown oscar with a blue lobster, a BIG angel and an albino sailfin pleco, he tried puttin an arrowana in the tank with it and it died the day he put it in the tank, so that was a waste of £70 lol but good luck with any fish u diecide to try,
