Hy I was recently told by someone in my fish stockist that they fed there oscars cat food, they washed the chunks and gave it to them and they loved it.
I did'nt think twice, I thought he would enjoy the change to his diet,
However !
after 2 days about 8 x 1cm pieces he stopped eating, he hasnt been himself just sitting at bottom or at top watching. I have learned the error of my ways and I know I should have looked it up before adding it to his diet but this doesnt help him now so
he has a swolen abdomen today not to pronounced but vissibly larger than normal is there anything I can do for him ?
he is an 8 inch albino.

thanx in advance
yours hopefully ally.....

He sounds bloated, cook some peas, take the shell off and try feeding him those, hopefully that will help him pass the cat food.

Don't feed him at all for several days. Larger cichlids don't need to eat every day, my oscar gets fed a few times a week, 10" or so. Epsom salt works wonders for constipation, a 10 minute bath in a bucket with 1 teaspoon per gallon will usually clean them out if he doesn't do it on his own in a couple of days.

What is Andrews Salt? Sucrose 40.5%, Sodium Bicarbonate 22.6%, Citric Acid, 19.5%, Magnesium Sulfate 17.4%. Epsom salt is magnesium sulfate, 100%.

While it may seem like a major oops, it also may work, interesting to see.

he is actually a lot more active today and showing signs of hunger, when I fed the clown loaches he got quite agitated and chased them I think because they were getting and he was'nt which is a big improvement on just sitting at bottom or top ! however he still has'nt passed anything but he is a lot more active and actually looks pretty happy today which has realy cheered me up but waiting for him to pass something then will be realy happy.

will keep updating thanx :good:

finally had enough and put oscar to sleep tonight, tried everything sugested but no joy been waiting hoping he would turn around but desided hed had enough, the swelling had started to enter one of his fins and other fish started nipping at him today.
he was still chasing them but was suffering and the wife was in tears so lesson learned in the worst possible way DONT FEED OSCARS CAT FOOD even if someone tells you they do !!!

R.I.P oscar :(
