So I’m moving away next year and have listed all my aquarium bits for sale. I managed to sell my whole discus community as well as all plants for a good price, but have been really struggling to get rid of the tank.

I decided to take on an Oscar as I’ve always had plants so it’s never been something I’ve owned. After having him delivered and popping him in the tank, I realised how massive he is in comparison to the tank. It is a 55 gallon, 3.5ft tank. The Oscar must be almost 12”! Now I feel awful. For one the tank is so empty and baron, it looks so unstimulating having no plants/tank mates. Also he is huge. I am reading conflicting information on Oscar’s in 55s.

I have attached a video to show the tank and Oscar. It is such a gorgeous, cool fish, but I feel unable to enjoy it wandering whether or not it is fair. Perhaps I should just give him away and give the tank to someone.

I know I should have done more research and I never want fish to suffer. My bad if this is not acceptable.

I had an Oscar in a 55 or 60 gallon tank in my youth. He or she was kind of like a puppy and would swim excitedly in circles at the front of the tank, begging for food when I walked into the room. It might not have been an ideal setup, but the fish was not neglected, was far from listless, and had plenty of filtration to meet its needs.

You say you are moving in the next year or so? Find it a good BIG home that it will be able to move into and cut yourself some slack.

Minimum tank size for one 12” Oscar is 4’x2’x2’, in my opinion.

Watch these videos, he keeps doing this, can’t be a good sign :(

Think I’m going to rehome tomorrow 😢
