Im thinking about getting some oriental firebellied toads
And im wanting to know if people have or have kept them for basic info like feeding, tank setups, ease of care etc

Also can anubias nana attatched to a piece of lava rock be kept with the roots under water but the leaves out of the water?

Any pics of the toadys in their home would be brilliant to :good:

Ha I have no experience but I suggested them to you, are you really fancying some?

www.caudata.org have an ambhibian section about half way down, you can ask as many sensible or stupid questions on there (I certainly did); that site normally has care sheets as well.

Hi, well i was going to have some ADFs but store kept screwing up so im not shopping with thm but LFS has the toads so i thought ill get them.
Ill have a look on that site thanks. Wont be able to get them this week tho cos ive got the puppy playing nursemaid lol i kinda got the rest of the week off work know how? by trapping my finger in a door at work lol swelled up far too quick so spent yesterday at hospital having x-ray all good now but what a way to get off work lol

Would lava rock pieces, large gravel, small gravel be ok? obviously sand would be best but id rather have gravel.

Would bird sand be ok?
"Specially selected and graded superfine bird sand with added oyster shell. Suitable for all types of aviary and cage birds. The added oyster shell aids digestion and provides essential trace elements and minerals"

Im planning on doing a Paludarium for them, on the land side would it be beneficial to have a shallow tub with some ordinary grass growing (shallow enough so they can get into it easily but not so the soil can fall out)
Also in all the pics ive seen of them in captivity they have gravel as a substrate - would it be ok? i have normal sized natural gravel atm

I don't know, I've not owned any. I'd think gravel so long as it is too big to be eaten would be sufficient.

I would have guessed the bird sand wouldn't be suitable; it says it has oyster shells in it; on here they are always saying no to adding shells into your tank as it changes the pH, I guess that applies to them crushed as well.

If you want sand, Argos play sand is recommended on the other site I said to look on; it's good and cheap apparently.

Geeze I hope your finger gets better; it must have been some jam you had it in to get it swelling up so quickly.

I don't know about the lava rock; it will contain traces of irons, if they can take metals then I guess it would be ok; I know my newts can't take irons so I had to be careful with what I got for them. Ask on the other site, they will know far more than me.

Ive looked at argos but i dont want 15KG but ive found a reliable site that is doing 2kg for £2.99 so i could always go for that. i reakon ive got probably abut 1.5 to 2 KG gravel in atm will i need more sand than that?

Ok thanx anyway, i cant find any info on that link you gave me about the toads
