Fish Fanatic
Hey everyone,
When I bought my fluval ebi I had always intended to keep my kuhli loaches in it and then eventually order a fantastic specimen of a male betta to be the centrepiece. I have also decided that before I buy my betta I will try to get a small group of shrimp going (probably just cherries), because I heard that shrimp stand a better chance if they're in the tank before the betta.
I do not have the shrimp yet, but I'm starting to think about my betta again and I'm assuming I am going to order one from Thailand (probably via aquabid) as the main Canadian transhipper happens to live in Montreal (like I do), so I wouldn't pay an arm and a leg for shipping like some people would have to. Also, the betta would not have to complete two journeys (such as Thailand to Montreal, then to Vancouver), he'd just need get to Montreal safely.
A lot of the breeders I have been interested in offer some sort of DOA policy, but since the fish arrives to the transhipper, I'm assuming that they would deal with a DOA from Thailand (that is, they'd be the one taking a picture of the dead fish in an unopened bag). However, I am a little fearful that the betta may be less hardy after the trip and I don't really want a dead fish on my hands only days after ordering one. I'd be out of luck then, and the poor thing would have gone through everything for nothing.
Questions:
Do bettas usually do the trip just fine? Once they regain health, are they usually just as hardy as any other betta? Are fancier bettas, such as half moons with fantastic colours less hardy than a standard coloured and patterned plakat?
I've kept bettas before, but always just from the pet store and never with this much thought
