Hello,

I have recently ordered an EHEIM 2213 external filter and the following media:

efhisubstrat pro
sera siporax
ppi foam (blue sponge) - medium

What would be an ideal and effective to way to order the above inside the canister?

I was thinking of:

From Bottom to Top:

2 layers of blue sponge or lots of wool
efhisubstrat pro
sera siporax
1 layer of blue sponge

Thanks in advance.

Generally, you want the coarsest media first graduating to the finest media last. If the 2213 works in the same way as other Eheim canisters, the water flows into the bottom and up through the canister, so I'd put the tubes at the bottom, the EhfiSubstrat in the middle and the wool at the top.

Yup, the water flows into the bottom and up through the canister. I figured by placing the sponge or the wool as the first layer then all major dirt is first captured there so that substrat and siporax remain free of most of it. And the last layer of the sponge or wool at the top to trap all remaining dirt.

I would think the center better for the tubes it will be your main source of bacteria and biological filtration, it will clog too easily in the bottom,

A sponge can be good at the bottom but also clogs easily and really slows the filter, however it comprimises less bacteria, so doing this will require slightly more maintenace then what Lateral Line suggested

I would say

sponge or subtrate at the bottom
spiromax in the middle
another sponge,
then wool

The Sera Siporax is an equivalent of Eheims Ehfimech.

In which case:

Bottom - sera siporax (mechanical)
then - course blue pad
then - efhisubstrat (biological)
Top - fine white pad or filter wool.

The tubes do fine on the bottom, this is where Eheim advise they are placed. Eheim also advise you use their media in their filters *shrugs* If it does the same job, there is no harm in giving it a go though :)
