Orca Or Resun

Cageuk,
Just bought a WG-308, if Civicr does not mind, I'll chuck the removal process up here.
Any tips on the installation process ?

Civicr,
Have you made up your mind yet ?

Hi Plutosmate

It's been a little while since I installed it but this is how I remember the process.

First the original skimmer has to be removed. With the tank electrics unplugged you have to reach into the right hand chamber to take out the pump. There is a large thumb screw on the left hand side and at the bottom of the chamber which holds the skimmer in place. Unscrew this and remove the skimmer. Remove the air tube from the pump then replace the pump into position ensure that the outlet is fitted into the hole at the bottom.

Strip everything from the new skimmer including the sausage shaped filter. Do not use the clip but you can use the sucker. It is very fiddly to get the skimmer into the second chamber but it does just about fit. Route the cable through one of the side cable clamps and that is about it :good:

Once you look at what you've got you'll soon suss it out.

Cheers

still havent made my mind up yet but i think ill got for the orca tank, thanks for all the info peeps

I have the Orca also. I have been running it for 5 months now. I haven't had much issue with it. I removed all the internal media apart from the sponge which I will be cutting down as i am going through a nitrate spike at the moment. I put a bag of Phosphate removal stuff in the left chamber. I have been running it without using the built in skimmer because of all the issues you have probably read already, I do about 15-20% waterchange a week, which is easy with this small volume of water. I have added a Korella Nano pump to increase the flow. Reading the threads on this site I will purchase a replacement skimmer.

Overall I like the Orca, the hood is tidy. good arrangement to feed cables and hoses out of the tank. I haven't had the issues with the fan noise yet, as soon as I do I will buy some Silent PC fans.

Doing it again I would probably go for something with a larger footprint.
