i just picked one of these guys up from hawkins, one of my local fish shops. hes just under an inch long, looks to be a few bristle so hoping he is a male but too small to tell yet, unfortunantly there wasnt nemore n they dont kknow if they will be getting more in. i have common bristlenose, n what i was wanting to ask is are their requirments the same? as i cant find any info on the orange spots, like nothing what so ever!
thanks in advance vampire.

Any chance you can get a photo of it, as it may not be a BN, although it could be from the ancistrus family though. There are several Ancistrus with orange spots so a photo may help us ID it and then give you the correct advice.

Cheers.

ok thanx didnt know that. spoke to the guy that sold him to me and he said it is a bristlenose he had the scientific name but cauldnt think of it at the time but i will probably go back thru the week, he said he was pretty rare n gets bigger than a normal bristlenose.

Hi, This could be hard to pinpoint on this forum as us Aussies know them as orange spots but other counties don't call them that. They require similar conditions to other bristlenoses. They look kind of like a peppermint (L183) but browner and orangeish spots. They are definately an Ansistrus species but pinpointing the species may be hard.

I don't know if that helped at all.

isit something like this. because else i have no idea!

After what dylema said, I think it could be a golden nuggect plec, which is similar to the ancistrus, but is actually a Baryancistrus.

There are many species like this, and I own one, the only problem yopu have is some of them only grow to a few inches where as other can grow to 12" or bigger.

Here is a link to the Golden Nuggets that are listed on Planetcatfish.com, as common names are applied to many species:

- L081
- L177
- L018

Hope this help to identify your fish, and I hope you have a smaller species or a large tank :)

I think the biggest difference between a gold nugget and an orange spot here is the price and we are talking hundreds of dollars difference in price. You can get a 4cm orange spot for $15-20 private/wholesale and 4cm gold nugget is around the $500 mark.

Check out L110 this is not them but similar.

They also look similar to this and this and this

I am too tired to keep going down the ancistrus list but keep searching.

DiscusAngel that is the classic Albino sp3 nice fish though I have a trio.

he deff isnt any of the ones inthe pictures but thank u all so much for your help!!! he is very close to a few of them but at the same time not? i havnt been able to get a pic of him yet but when i do i will post it. o n another thing the seller told me was he gets abit bigger than a bristlenose???

if he gets bigger than a bristlnose that I would say it was Baryancistrus as they grow mainly over the normal BN sizes

Here are a couple of shots on an orange spot I had a while back (it unfortunately died in a tank crash a couple of months ago). I hope it is the same as yours we will see.
Sorry the pictures aren't clear she used to hide all the time.
