I have kept them in in hard fresh water with ph on the alkalyn side .They adapted to my tap water with little in the way of additives . They breed easy .and are very devoted to the care of their young . I just thought this would be a good topic of discussion , didn't know where to put it , No place for Asian Cichlids . Anyone else have expirience , let's hear it maybe it will spark someones interest for something a little off the beaten path .

I wasn't sure , because in all the books I have on fish, cichlids are split into 3 groups african , asian , and new world . That's why I posted this here . If it needs to be moved , can it ? They do behave like many new world as well as west african cichlids .

The Orange Chromide is an artificial improvement on the wild Etroplus maculatus from India, which is pale colored with black stripes and spots (the only known Asian Cichlid). It is originally a brackish water fish and will appreciate the addition of a little aquarium salt to the water :) .

Good Luck

Only central and south american cichlids are classed as new world, asia is considered old world. Since chromides are a brackish fish i guess they count as oddballs so the topic can stay here.
