Hi everyone I'm new to this site, have been working with tropical fish for 13 years now and have 4 very well established tanks, my pride and joy though is my 6 foot tank, reason being is I have some extraordinary fish in there, I have four very large silver dollars (8-9inches) three large silver sharks (from 7 to 10inches) one large angel about 6 inches, four 6" firemouths, two large honey gouramis around 6 inches, one large parrot about 5") three jewels, 7 corys, one huge 13" plec and three 8" plecs, I have had lots of views and opinions on this, all good lol. I haven't had a new fish in there in 8 years, they are all amazing with each other and have amazing personalities. My main question is am I the only one that doesn't agree with those who say you should never mix cichlids with normal fish, I have never had an issue. Look forward to your responses (sorry if I've bored u already lol)

i have a bolivian ram in a planted and kribensis in my semi-aggressive with barbs and tetras and have no problems whatsoever

Some Cichlids can't be mixed with some fish, others can. Kind of an vague question IMO.



I thought honey gourami only got to be 2-3 inches tops. Your fish isn't a honey gourami.

May not be honeys then, they are large gouramis with a honey yellow colouring and black markings on their dorsals and tail fin

i think it depends on the type of cichlid and other fish really, some will be fine but obviously the aggressive ones are a no go

Welcome to the forum!

You might have Snakeskin gouramis (Trichogaster pectoralis.)

or maybe he has gold gouramis, they look like opalines just a gold version, they could get that size-maybe the yellow colur makes him think of honey

Not really they've settled in real well now, when they were younger they used to get a bit aggressive but mellowed out now, its a very peaceful tank, except for feeding lol when it turns into a frenzy

My favourite fish are the silver dollars they are amazing things, I got them when they were about the size of a 50p now they about size of dinner plates lol. Great personalities u can put ur hand in and touch them, if the firemouths don't try nip ur fingers lol

Sounds like a great collection of fish. The gouramis are just about as big as they can get. What kind of corys do you have in there?
