currently, i have a 5gal minibow divided for 2 of my males...their tails started to look pretty ragged. they were divided by a regular clear divider, so i laminated a sheet of paper and put that in to keep them from seeing each other.

problem and question #1: the heater is on 1 side and the filter is on the other...the water doesn't circulate nearly as well any more...what should i do to improve this?

question #2: i am thinking of putting the boys in separate tanks, but then i would have to shuffle everyone else's current arrangements...i was thinking that my females would do the best in this tank as all of my males have (or used to have) very long tails. i am just looking for confirmation that 3 females in a 5 gal (not divided) is a bad idea. if you think it is worth a try, please tell me why!

thanks for all your help!! :D

If you wanted to keep the males in the 5 gallon, try looking for a tank divider that isn't see through. They might be hard to find, I can't find any where I live.

no no bad idea unless you want dead fish and even more torn fins, what possessed you at that thought, female are just as good at fighting as males, get a bigger tank with loads of hiding places and then OK go for it..... or just rearrange everything its more fun....... you could try running a pipe from the filter outlet to the other side of the tank and the water will circulate..:p

Edit have a word with carolinesugar and joby they have female only tanks..... :D

i "know" that the 5 gal is too small, i just had to hear someone else tell me that... i know that sounds stupid, but that's why i asked.
