The reason I have fake plants is due to lack of knowledge and time. By using fake plants I can give the fish somewhere to hide still but with out having to learn about plants and fish. My understanding is that fake plants will also grow bacteria which in turn will help with cycling and any amonia problems etc etc.

I had friends with real plants and they now use plastic due to the time it takes and care needed.

I agree that real ones look better but for now I will keep it simple for myself.

I find that some plants should be classed as water weeds as they just grow without problems. its just knowing what to put in. if you want a challenge there are plants that will give you just that. the ones i have in my tank just look after themselves...i just got normal gravel, i took out the co2 and they still go for it, but co2 will defiantly make em grow faster....

i think that anyone who was smart enough to know that he didnt know enough about plants, had plastic plants in his first tank ... i know i did...

Try plant's like Anubias ~ great for beginners and very low maintenance

your tank looks very nice, plenty of scope to for changing things about and different stocking ideas
