Well i have had my 4ftx1ftx18" coldwater community for about 3 months now, its all run smoothly and i have gradually introduced more fish.

and of course. with more fish. comes more ammonia, so i added a stingray elite 15 and a aqua flow 2 alongside the tetratec IN 600.

so my total lph is 1,400. The total tank volume is 170l. so if im right the tank is being turned over 8 times per hour.

The current stock is the following

8 assorted small goldfish (including 2 shubunkins and a comet)
1 weather loach
1 large goldfish
3 small roach.

now, if i had this stock with just the tetratec 600 IN which came with the tank then i would have serious problems.

so my question is, with my filtration and 25% weekly water changes. is this tank sound?

if neccesary, i can add more filtration and increase my w/c regime.

All the fish are in top nick and behaving normally etc etc...

what do we think??

Thanks

Trouble is as we all know '8 assorted small goldfish' won't stay small for long.
my honest opinions are that you are quite overstocked, your roach for example would, in a pond environment reach between 14 and 17 inches, I know that isn't likely to happen in your tank but they will still get quite large, as will the goldfish.

Also with the amount of fish you have and the size of the tank you have, i seriously feel that your internals are going to make little difference to the overall filtration of the tank,

Do you test the parameters of the water? Just becasue the fish look in good condition doesn't necessarily mean that the water is fine.

If your ammonia and nitrite stay 0 your filter is up to it. Water changes will reduce the nitrate - hard to say what a good level would be. That doesn't answer the question of whether there is enough space for the fish

at the moment there is enough actual space for the fish to swim. if i showed you a picture you would see what i mean. I may soon have a spare tank, depends on what i do with my axolotl ( i need a 3 ft tank fro him) But yeah, fish do grow and these will need to be rehomed. I will get hold of a test kit. i bet you anymoney the stats are perfect.

not trying to start an argument or anything :)

Saying they have enough room to swim , isnt a valid point a pic would go better (not having a go =]) Just so that we can see what you are trying to imply because 8 ass goldies sound way too much and the other fish as well sounds a tad overstocked

i agree, it is abit overstocked. but by adding the filters the ammonia is being cancelled out. and at the moment thee is enough swimming space, as soon as space becomes an issue ill hit on the head. by either selling on the fish or buying another tank :)
