I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, if not I'm sorry, but does anybody know of any good quality online stores to buy from in Australia that sell a range of live plants or aquascaping supplies including rock, driftwood, backgrounds etc? I can't go out yet due to lockdown and have no specialised aquarium stores near me and the few places I've seen online only have a basic range or don't have the best reviews for live plants. Any suggestions at all or places you've bought from are appreciated, thank you in advance.

Hi April_ht,
There are a few websites I like to buy live plants from, list of my favs below.
I have ordered plants and hardscape from most of them and love to scroll through to see what specials they have when bored 😂
Could also try Ebay, especially for hardscape.

Thank you, I know the struggle and spend most of my free time scrolling through hundreds of websites, worst part is I've already seen all of these websites though did decide to order a few things from NanoTanks 😂 They are all good websites, just missing that one plant species that I want so I can never find a full list of plants to buy from the same shop. Thank you for the suggestions.

No worries, I just set up a new planted aquarium and found I had to order plants from a number of sites to get the plants I wanted. Would be nice if there was a "one-stop-shop" with everything at reasonable prices 😂
Just out of curiosity, what plant species are you looking for??

I'm in the process of transferring from plastic plants and ornaments to a low-tech setup so am looking at Vallisneria, Java or Flame Moss and Crested (Windelov) Java Fern as my set options and Anubias, Pearlweed, Brazilian Pennywort, Blyxa Japonica and Hygrophila, Rotala and Ludwigia species but are not set species, mostly just as trial and error to see what works. I recently bought Blue Stricta and Staurogyne Repens without realising they need fertiliser, which is in the mail luckily 😂 This is the kind of look I'm going for:
Now I just need to wait for my hardscape, substrate and everything else to arrive so I can order the plants, it'll (hopefully) be a big improvement from this as it was very pricey:
Also don't mind the floating plant 🤣

How exciting! Love that island composition🤩
All of those plants are amazing and do wonders for your water quality.
Something I have found with fertiliser is that the heavy root feeders such as the vallisneria, and even the stems benefit greatly from root tabs. They're not essential especially if you are using aquasoil substrate, but I have found the plants are more vibrant and settle in better.
It can be very expensive to gather all the materials for the set-up, but it so worth it in my opinion. Takes fish keeping to the next level lol😂
I hope it all goes well for you😊

Thank you, I do plan to put the most aquasoil under the more planted areas as I'm using a mixed substrate but maybe I'll invest in root tabs if they slow down in growth or aren't doing the best. I can't wait to start it, though the regret when you realise you could've invested in a better rock type is not too great as I've bought smooth lava stone, which doesn't seem to be too appealing from what I've seen. For some reason though I did only buy 1kg 😒 I may have underestimated the amount I would need, but luckily my area is almost out of lockdown and I can get out after the weekend when I get my second covid vaccine. I'll try and drag my parents to the lfs to see if I can find anything interesting hopefully.

Sorry, I realise I ranted a little. I hope it all goes to plan too, good luck with your current and future tanks, you seem like a great person 😊

I'm in WA, so because of quarantine restrictions find it hard, if not impossible, to get plants online, all the above listed are over East so can't dispatch to WA. Fortunately there's a few lfs that I can get to who have decent plant stocks; in fact last few months the varieties available seem to be increasing.

I'm sorry to hear that, luckily I live in NSW, though I'm glad you are still able to find plants nearby. The laws are all over the place in Australia and unfortunately we do not have the best range of fish. I was looking at a weather loach for my outdoor pond, illegal. Pygmy Sunfish, illegal. Killifish, legal but found in every country except Australia and Antarctica. Dwarf/Pea Puffer, over $100. I do know of a few online stores that will ship to WA but they often require a license or a large sum of money. Hopefully the quarantine restrictions ease up in a few years time.
