Hi all...I just discovered places online to buy fish. However, is this a good way to get fish or should I stick to the local pet stores? Most of the ones here have a pretty limited supply, but I worry about where the online fish come from and what they go through in transit. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!

On the only online fish retailer i've seen they explained how the packed the fish and it seemed very good to me, they were also shipped by overnight courier and guaranteed before 12 the next day. I intend to buy all my fish from shops because then you can see the condition of them and the tanks before you buy, but if maybe there's one species that I particularly want and can't find it anywhere, I will probably resort to buying online. HTH :)

If you are happy with the selection of fish that yout LFS stocks and can get all the fish you want to keep from them then do so, you will save money on shipping if nothing else. However most people as they advance in the hobby find that their LFS has a quite limited stock and want to try fish that are a little harder to come by, for some people this may just mean travelling to a store a bit further away but for others mail order is a easier and cheaper option. I have on a few occasions now ordered fish from a online retailer and so far all the fish have arived in excellent health and none the worse for wear from their journey.

CFC what UK online retailers have you found to be good? The only one i've found is in Cambourne (can't remember the name) which isn't that far away anyway so I may as well drive there.

Any online retailers that anyone can recommend for the US would be appreciated as well! The few I've found online seem to have less stock than the stores in the area.

The online store i use is Trimar which is based in cornwall so probably is the same shop chrix.
