Online Fish Shops???

Indeed there are afew online shops that will mail fish to ur door! Tri-Mar being the biggest I believe. They way the fish are transported is in a polystyrene box, normally double bagged, with a heat pack in the box, and sent out on 24hr delivery :)

In the summer you dont even need a heat pack - I have had two trios sent by a friend thru the post with no problems at all. In fact I have had perfect drops from them

Live fish by post is VERY rare in the UK tho - its much more common in Europe and the states.

Has anyone in the UK used any of these shops....I'm still a bit dubious, but I can't find a betta that I like the look of in my LFS's abnd was hoping that online I'd hvae more choice...

Any ideas..?

CFC has brought from Tri-Mar and was very happy with them. Their website is a little amateurish though, (sorry Monty - but it is!), I doubt you'd be able to buy a specific betta.

I've used them (Tri-Mar) and I've got another order coming on Wednesday! They are such a good shop, they'll even help you get hold of difficult or rare fish.

Monty mentioned to me that he had some gorgeous bettas in stock so they'd definitely help you and you'd no doubt get a much better fish than you could get locally (and even when you take the £10 delivery charge into account, they're often cheaper). They've got some special offers on food and stuff at the moment, so you could always have some non-fish stuff added to your order.

With a neon, yes, I can well see how you could buy mail order, but with something as variable as a betta, how could that work, bearing in mind the limitations of Monty's web site?

Hey, they're fish experts, not Java experts!

Then you'd have to pick up the dog-and-bone and actually speak to the guy! Bizarre concept, I know. I am confident that Monty would be able to provide something suitable - although it would require trusting him to tell the truth. OTOH, maybe he could do something with a digital camera?

Thanks for the advice..I was kinda hoping to be able to chose at least the type of colourings of my Betta, but I suppose that beggers can't be choosers..! :D

I have no doubt of Monty's honesty, but Betta's are so much a matter of individual taste. If I asked for a COMPLETELY red one, okay, maybe, but a blue one with red edges to the fins? See what I mean, that could be interpreted in any of a dozen different ways.
