Hi. Sat most of the afternoon just watching the fish when I noticed on the side of one of my rams a single white spot  Could this be the sign of White spot?? No other fish have it or displaying any other symptons. Could it just be something else, if so what??

Here are 2 pictures, Ive circuled the spot. Sorry about qaulity of pic, off phone camera but you can clearly see it.

I think I will die if its the start of white spot :( :-( :shout:

Could be whitespot but I doubt it. Has their been much flicking/rubbing against objects in the tank?
Do you have a sand substrate because it could just be a spec of sand? Or just a natural colour variation.

To big for a whitespot.
Does it have a circling of red around the edges or a spot in the centre.
These sort of spots are usually bacterial as you can get columnaris spots.

Ive just seen that fish flick and rub once against a rock.

No circling edge or spot in the middle, just a slight raised white spot? It definatly wasnt there before as i thourahly check them over for things like that.

What should I do??

Can you enlarge the pics.

Hmmm I lost a tank full once to white spot and the spots looked same size and simular??

No bubbles, no.

From reading your article Im none the wiser really lol. Excpet I have mollies and it says mollies are particularly susceptable to it and my mollies are in brill shape.

Also from reading about Columnaris, im pretty worried as it says can be catastrophic and kill rest of fish fast, sometimes with in hours!!

Should I put salt in the tank?? Are the fish I have ok with salt: I know mollies are, neons, penguin tetras, cory pandas and of course the ram/ them selves.

Corys can tolerate abit of salt but not the full dose.
How many gallons or litres is the tank.
How many fish are flicking in the tank, the problem with columnaris is that they can flick with that too but usually fluffy growths rather than spots.

i have had it start off like that before but ive also thought it was a spot when it was just a dislodged scale that finally came off. hows the fish acting? any signs off stress rapid breathing or anything/?

Oh this is looking worse :(

Both rams are sitting at bottom hiding behind a cave. Breathing is pretty rapid!!

Also one neon, the smallest has isolated its self and sat at bottom also and has rapid breathing, neon has clamped dorsal but the rams dont.

Increase aeration in the tank.
Can we take a look at your water stats.
If it was whitespot would of expected more fish to be flicking and rubbing.

Right, water stats do you mean paremeters??

Amonia 0ppm
Nitrite 0ppm
Nitrate 10ppm

The water stats are fine then.
It's pointing towards two directions, parasite to bacterial can labour breath with both.
If there no spots on the other fish going to say try a bacterial med, as it one or the other till the grains of salt show up on the fish.
Turn temp down two degrees.
