Hi guys

I have 12 Endlers and one if them is acting strange.

All the others are fine, you can see them happily swimming around him, he is just staying on the bottom, he also looks skinny, and belly sucken in? :(

I can't get him out of the tank because i rescued a Betta so he is in what was the hospital tank :(

Do you think it could be bacterial or just old age?

Cheers

Obviously he is not that small its just the others are nearest the camera

hmmm water stats mate?

how long u had him?

sorry for your loss :(

Water stats are fine.

Ammonia 0ppm
NitrIte 0ppm
NitrAte 5ppm
pH 7.6

I bought them all at the same time, April from the same place.

He isn't dead yet

Sunken in belly and being skinny can be a number of things.

What does it look like when the fish goes to the toilet.
Is the anus enlarged or red and inflamed.
Any worms prutruding from the anus.
Any fish with bent spines.

His poop ... I haven't seen him poop, I rarely see them poop
Anus looks ok, ni inflamation
No worms
I would say he has an iregular shape to the rest

He's just lying in the corner on the sand :(

Can you issolate him.
It could be internal bacteria infection to internal parasites. Has the fish lost weight due to not eating.
How do the other fish look. What does it look like when they go to the toilet.

Camallanus

Symptoms:

When the fish is stationary, deep red worms can be seen protruding from the anal pore. They are only visible when the fish is still because the worms retreat into the intestine at the fish’s slightest movement. Other signs may include an inflamed and enlarged anus. In severe infestations, the fish may become emaciated and spinal curvature may also occur.

Cause:

The parasitic worms Camallanus Cotti and Camallanus lacustris. These small, livebearing parasitic worms attach to the intestinal walls and rectum with pinchers. The worm’s grip is so tight that any attempts to remove it forcibly will rip away tissue from the intestinal wall. The worm’s pinching causes ischemia (reduced blood flow) to that part of the intestine. In time, the tissue to that part of the intestine will die, at which time the worm will migrate to another part of the intestine. This causes perforations throughout the intestine, which allows other pathogens to gain entry. If the fish is not treated, either the parasite or bacterial will kill the fish. Camallanus infestations occur most often in livebearing fish such as Guppies and Mollies, though infection is possible in all fish. Camallanus infestations are contagious. All fish, including those not yet showing visible symptoms, as well as the aquarium, should be treated.

Treatment:

Treat with Internal Parasite Guard, Pipzine, Disco-Worm, Trichlorfon or Fluke-Tabs as well as a medicated food to prevent a bacterial infection.

Thanks for the reply :)

I have no way of isolating him :(

The other fish poop (from what I've seen) looks normal

He may have lost weight due to not eating, he's not eaten for the last 2 days

There's definitely no worms coming from his anus

Here's a close up pic of him ...

I have Pygmy (Habrosus) Corydoras and Rainbow Shrimp in the tank, would it be safe to treat the whole tank as I can't isolate him?

The shrimp would need taking out and moving to a issolation tank. If you treat the tank with the shrimp in you could lose them.
You need to worm the whole tank if you think its camallanous worms.

Keep a look out for these symtoms fish tb.

Loss of appetite
Progressive thinness
Sluggish movement
Folded fins
Eye protrusion
Dark coloration and granular appearance of the cornea (this is the first sign in Angelfish).
Skeletal deformity
Hanging at the surface
Skin defects, including blood spots and open wounds that may ulcerate
Black spots, or overall dark coloration (in Cichlids particularly).
Fin rot, characterised by the outer rays falling out.
Scales loosening and falling out
General swelling and scale protrusion (as in Dropsy)

Thank you very much for your help ... I'm not sure what I can do for him as even if I do move my shrimp (no isolation tank) wouldn't I have to thoroughly scrub the tank to reintroduce them?

It depends. If it internal parasites and bacterial you can treat for that. You just place the strimp back once the med has been removed from the tank with water changes and black carbon.
But if its tb you need antibiotics which are only available in the uk from a vet.

Well i couldn't stand to see him like he was this morning :( i ended his little life for him. Never done anything like that before was sobbing while i done it :( was horrid, but he is not suffering anymore.

He was curled up at the bottom gasping and i didn't think it was fair :(

All the others seem fine so hopefully all is well x

Bless Him. R.I.P.
Did you order that worming med.
Just keep a close eye on your other fish.
Good Luck.
