Recently bought some discus from discus hans. All except one readily eat both frozen, dry, and flack foods.
He seems to be doing fine and schooling with the others, but at feeding time he shows no entrust in food.
Have offered several kinds of flakes, pellets, frozen mysys shrimp, frozen blood worms, cod and shrimp blended together. Discus hans said he feeds them a mixture of lean hamburger, cod, and shrimp blended together. he has not eaten for about 8 days. My question is can i substitute deer for hamburger(about 98% lean)

You could try the other foods that the fish is used to, but personally, if he is healthy, he will eat whats offered when hungry enough. Don't play their silly games and give them what they are used to, as that will eat pickily in future and not get a good enough diet. Let it starve for now and only offer them the hamburger e.t.c if it hasn't eaten for three weeks. This method sounds cruel, but a healthy Discus will last a good 4 weeks without food.

If it eats one food and one food only, it will suffer a dietary dificiency at some point and fall ill as a result

Some things to encurage a fish to eat though, would be garlic. Believe it or not, this stuff is supposed to be really good for getting stubborn fish to feed... :good:

Hamburger?? This must be beefheart. If I were to feed deer it would be its heart only.
Give it what it was eating before(beefheart/cod/shrimp) and try brineshrimp, whiteworm, mussels, scallops ect. Have you contacted Hans about it?

I'd avoid varying from your intended diet unless absolutely nessisary, or you may be stuck with a fish that eats one food only and suffers all manors of diet related health issues most of the time, such as HITH and certain parasites...

All the best
