On Their Way From Thailand

Sanya has some very nice fish. I have a few of them at home, and will be receiving a couple more shortly. Good choice. :good:

I guess they shipped today (wed) instead. I should have them in the next 12 hours. My biggest concern at the moment is that it is 100F outside, so I have to be around in case they are left at the door! Coming home to boiled bettas would be unsettling.

Hi. Hope they arrive safely :good:

Did the seller not inform you that they had been sent? Most sellers will confirm the day to make sure someone is there to sign for them.

I have yet to hear from the transhipper that they have arrived...have you? Did you pay whoever you're using for that shipping?

Linda, the transhipper shipped mine yesterday and they are now here.

The Good News: they're alive
The Bad News: their tail fins are severly messed up. I'm assuming that this is due to the stresses of shipping. Any thoughts? Their color is of course off too and I am not certain that I received the same orange one that is pictured.

What can i do to help recover their color and fins? I'd say that they are missing up to 30-40% of their tail fins. How long should it take to recover?

Thanks,

acclimatize them and the warm water should bring out their colour, add some melafix to the tank and this will help to stop infections or salt which someone is bound to advise but i dont agree with salt on wounds, i wouldnt like it if it was me. healing should start within a couple of days and regrowth will show from 5 - 7 days time

Good to know, thank you. I added some melafix and normally treat the water w/ a small amount of salt when making each batch (so I already have about 3/4 tblsp to each 5 gallons). Can I expect the fins to regrow at the colors they were before?

the regrowth will be white and on rare occasions can be grey, this is the base colour of their fins and the colour follows at a much later date, but not long, do water changes daily and treat each time with the melafix and salt that your using and keep this up until you see regrowth, the excess water change will help the speed of the growth

Thanks Modaz. Are the damaged fins normal in shipping? Is this the result of stress?

Hi Mach

Glad they arrived, but sorry to hear about their fins :(

Fins can be damaged whilst in transit, although i've never had a damaged one, even the 2 we got from Thailand. As Modaz says, it can take quite a while for the original colour of the fins to come back. Our Purple BFHM blew his fins and they are still not right after 2 months.

Keep up the good work and you'll see the colours coming back :good:
