It is on the outside of my fry box inside my tank, about 1cm long

Looks like a wasp or hornet head. When they fight they often bite the heads off their opponents. If it is a full centimeter that would be pretty big. The image quality is a bit low so it is still a guess, but the upper right sure looks like mandibles from a wasp.

It looked like some sort of beetle… inside the tank on the outside of the fry box.. I removed it..
Not sure if these photos help..
I guess I may never know!

I looked up images of wasp heads and I think you’re spot on 😵 goodness knows how it got in there
 
Before you settle on wasp head, look as some pics of Argulus, aka fish lice.
