This comment was completely out of line and uncalled for!!!!! I only see one person being hard headed AND ignorant. Guess who?

In the time it took for you to sit down, log in and post this topic you could have just as easily grabbed a net and seperated the two. Unbelievable!

EDIT~ Just saw your most recent post. You shall be receiving a PM from me in 3....2....

It is extremely hard to tell with female tail types :p Plus you're only saying she isn;t a VT female, well then what is she? is she a crownie? or a dt? if she's not there is a pretty good chance that she's VT. And you will get a lot of VTs with a VT cross.

And bettas have a ton of fry, we're just concerned that all the fry won't get homes. :/

I was reading this topic a while ago, and was just wondering how things were going.

I am sorry if you are still upset, wwestar, but usually, most people come on a forum if they want advice. Or some sort of feedback. And you DID ask a question.

wwestar2000, I think you're taking this way too personally, and I also don't think you know good advice when you see it. Breeding a VT with any other tail type will give you almost 100% VTs, and there are already too many VTs out there. I would be hard-pressed to believe it possible for you to find homes for all the fry. That's nothing against you, it's just the way things are. Think of VTs as the countless mutts that end up rotting away in animal shelters every year.

Here's my take on what's happened in this thread: Westar asked for advice, got an answer (to separate the male and female), did so, and when several people wanted to know more, and gave him advice about breeding, he proceeded to make a rude comment, apologize, and then make an even more rude comment and subsequently an even more minor and thoughtless apology.

Westar: you asked for advice and got it, and when several people tried to help and to assure themselves through asking questions that the baby bettas would have good homes, you got rude. Why? Just calm down. If you don't like the way things are going in a thread, instead of making comments like you did, just thank everyone for their answers and never come back to that thread again. That way you have the answer to your original question and the purpose of your posting was served. Nobody was making assumptions. We all just care a lot about the well-being of bettas and wanted to make sure you knew what breeding bettas (especially VTs) entails. If you do, that's excellent, and we're all glad for you. But if you didn't know about breeding, its good we asked and made sure, right?

-_- whoa.. Sorry if I offended with the VT remark. To me, its only in YOUR best interest that you don't breed Veil Tails.. just IMHO. Its very very hard to find homes for them, and its just kindof pointless when so many VT's are dying in pet stores because theres such an abundance. I just know that I would not breed VT's from Wal*Mart... especially unhealthy VT's that were rescued days ago. You also have no idea of their age, health, or background. They could be WAAY past their breeding prime, too young, completely mixed, etc. VT's also never produce consistently (meaning they do not produce babies of their color, they could be any color/size/type) and you could wind up with 100 fry of a certain color that is NOT appreciated by the average person (opaque, flesh colored, dark, mixed colors, etc).

:dunno: the main thing, was that you seemed like you were undecided between allowing the to hang out together, and obviously spawn eventually, or to seperate them. It seemed like common sense to me, that you would scoop the female out and return her to her own safe tank.... maybe you were expecting everyone to say "AWW, go ahead and breed those beautiful fishies!!" but its kindof more involved than just the breeding part. I also noticed that they're housed in a small divided tank... NOT a place to spawn. And if they didn't spawn and were just left there, you'd probably have an injured or dead female on your hands.

Because I'm a biology student with a concentration in genetics, I'm going to go ahead and be anal about it and point out that this isn't always necessarily true :p

VTs from Walmart are almost certainly homozygous for the trait, so they WILL produce 100% VTs... you're right that they aren't going to breed true in regards to colour though. Breeders of VTs who supply them for pet stores don't concentrate on getting pure colour strains, so the fish could potentially throw just about anything... and that's really not going to get your good results :/
