hey all, its SOOOOO hot out ang my thermometeris over 30, how would i bring the heat down

Increase the air circulation around the tank, reduce lighting hours, float ice in the tank, use a chiller etc.

Fan, bottle of ice(sealed) or water change with lower temp

will upload a link in a while but i managed to put a 12 volt dc fan in mine and it does the job. Just remember to turn it off once the heatwave is over though or you will be using more power to heat the tank than you really need to.

here ya go, this is the link to my diy page on how to build the thing.

All of the other methods said sound good, ice in a bottle sounding the best. Personally I just leave it if it's not for a long period of time, it's got my Angels and my Cutteri spawning so why not?

This just happened to me last night :(
Didn't realise till i woke up to find some fry dead
So this will be helpful for tonight :good:

My temp seems a bit high too. i know a lot of people say to float ice... but how much. I floated two 16oz frozen water bottles, but my temp didnt seem to budge. what do the rest of you use for ice?

It depends on how big your tank is. When I had to cool my 30g back in my apartment days, I froze ziploc sandwich bags with water and would go through 4 of them in order to bring the temperature from 80F back down to 76F. If I ever had to do this again I would be tempted to use 2L pop bottles filled with water instead as the bags kept getting holes in them lol.

If my tank get too hot (over 30 degrees) i use them ice cube bags made up with dechlorinated water,so if they do burst it'll be safe to enter the water :good:

Quite amusing to watch the fish investigating them

i had this today too , i came home from work and the warning lights on my heaters were flashing indicating too high a temperature . easiest way to bring it down imo is to just simply do a waterchange .

I don't think doing a water change every other day is safe or practical... LOL i guess if it didnt seem to go right back up after a while... I finally got my temp back down to 78-80 last night. guess thats not too bad!
