At last my black pregnant molly has had fry :hyper: I was beginning to worry as its been so long. I woke this morning and looked in tank and there they were on top of the filter lol. Took me ages to catch them. Ive only netted 7 and 1 is still in the tank as I just cant catch that little minx for life nor money lol. So in all there is 8  I was kinda expecting more and she is still pretty big. How long will it be before I know she has had them all?? I was looking at her a minute ago and it looked like she gave birth to one that looked white but dead  I have to go out today so wont know if she has more or not unless there lucky enough to survive like others thismorning.

I have to say, there alot bigger than I thought

So im all exited as this is my 1st time experiencing fry, Im even shaiking like a leaf with excitment lol. Getting ready to go out and wish I wasnt

So for a quicky, do I sart feeding the fry straight away?? If so what with?? At the moment ive crushed up flake food. How fast do they grow? cause there bigger than I expected them to be, maybe half the size of my neon tetras

Also, colouring. Will they turn out same colours as mum and dad? or could there be other colours in there?? Just curious as they all look dark at moment but I think I read they get there colour as they get older??

When im back tonight I might have time to read up more but this post will make it a little easier lol.

Ohhhh Im a mollie mom :hyper:

o congrats, on the fry, what colour are they?
hope you enjoy seeing them grow as much as i did :good:
they should be fine on finely crushed flake, and as for colouring, sometimes it developes over time, some are born with there colour

:good: Thanks. They all look Blackish in colour though I think there might be some like there dad which is dalmation colour.

Whilst i was sat waiting for my lift to my mums I spotted a few more fry in the main tank. Boy arent they fast. I cant catch them. Neons are the ones that seem to chase after them but they are fast enough to escape and great little hiders, one even buruid itself in gravel to hide lol. Ive come back and cant spot any of the ones left that were in main tank at all so not sure if there hiding or been eaten  Will keep an eye out to see if I spot them and can save them.

I did have a little 5 gallon tank aside ready for these but when I filled it up its leaks real bad  Typical when its bank holiday  so will have to manage with a breeders net until tuesday when I can exchange the tank.

Here are the best pics I could get for now:

Sorry my camera isnt the best for close ups.

yer they sure are fast, but its worse with guppies as there fry are like half the size and tend to blend in, if the fry can out swim you then they can probably out swim the other fish in the tank :good:

One little secret is if they go to the top of the tank (which is where my swordtails love to go when they're newborn) Grab a small glass or shotglass and put it in right by them. the current of the water will pull them in and you wont have to worry about nets.

Yep! It's a pretty good method. I've read on these forums about using the glass to pull the fish to the top but never about using it to bring the fish into the other tank/net. It has to be a lot less stressful on the poor little babies.

yeh when I observed them they seemd to just about manage to outswim the others. Ive managed to net one more but havent seen the other 2 loose ones at all now since yesturday morning. yeh they do like to hang out at the top alright, thats how i got the other one today lol. Ahh wish i had read the cup bit beofre now, makes perfect sense and would have helped alot.

So would you say she has had them all now? her tummy isnt any smaller lol. Cant believe how cute these fry look.

Will exchange my fry tank tomorrow so they will have there own little tank. How long do they take to grow BTw??
