Omg! Puffers

i picked up my old 35lt (9g i believe) fish tank today from the soon to be inlaws (when i eventually propose lol)
and looked through this site to see what i could possible get, and i come across dwarf puffers how excited i was when reading
others story's and pictures.

my question is what filtration do you suggest from external to internal i can probably mod my eclipse 12 tanks trikle filter to fit my 35lt
or i could get an external which would probably be better for the lil guys.

umm also is there such thing as a powerful light as in to bright for them (if that makes sense)

and do you think i can get them in australia??

I have a 25L tank with 2 dwarf puffers in and I use an Eden 501 external filter. I have to say it is the best external filter I have ever used! I never have problems getting it started and it runs at the same level as the tank. The inlet and outlet are diddy so really work well in smaller tanks and the puffers are very happy and healthy. I have been running this filter for well over a year now and it never misses a beat so I would really recommend it. It has room for both mechanical and biological media too! I got mine from eBay, it was quite pricey at about £50/£60 but well worth it, lol.

My tank is brightly lit but I use lots of floating plants to dim it down and the tank is generally quite heavily planted anyway so they can retreat to a dark hiding place should the mood take them. Generally though dwarf puffers do not appreciate lights that are too bright.

As for getting in them in Australia I have no idea, lol.

every now and then i read up about the DP's the information is great

i have read in some forums that keeping 3 is a lil to small for a 9gallon, and keeping 2 they will pick on each other
can some one explain? just want the best for them

There is no guarantee whether 2 or 3 works better unfortunately. It all depends on the personalities of the individual DPs. I once had 3 siblings (1M/2F) in the same tank and they got on very well but when I gave one of the girls away, the other girl near got killed by her brother. She was a lot smaller than her brother. If you are unlucky enough to get a super aggressive DP, then you might end up with just the one. However, I have kept 2 males in one tank without any problems so not much help here

That was helpful iSnail it looks like keeping 2 or 3 DP's is a bit of a gamble in a 9 gallon tank
now all i have to do is build a cabinet & buy an xternal filter, i will post pics as i build along
is there a post on here for 9gallon cabinets for ideas?

Good luck with whatever combination you decide to go for. DPs are great fun Even one DP in a smaller setup (e.g. 5 Gallon) works really well in my opinion.
