OMG please help me!

I have been conditioning a male and female betta for three weeks.
Last night male built h-u-g-e bubble nest and got REALLY excited when I introduced her to the tank. I let them see eachother- they were both flaring as usual - then I let her out....AND SHE ATTACKED HIM! She grabbed his tail in her mouth and started ripping huge great chunks out of it! I thought he was dead, but she was still dragging him around as I tried to fish her out with a net. I put her back in her own tank, but I left the male out of water just to see if he was alive or not. He started flapping around - HE'S ALIVE!! Now he has a demented tail and although he's acting normally again I'm worried about him.
What shall I do about his poor tail?? And his bubble nest got destroyed!

i am sorry to hear that it happen to you. Yes, it is very hard to see that happened. That is why you will encounter this if you want to breed. That is a female that will bite whatever male you going to breed with. she has to keep it alone now.

The males tail will heal. Keep the water very clean, and add some Melafix to aid in healing. You will need an aggressive male to put with her. Some males are just too nice.
This is just a thought, but are you sure she is a she...and not a male plakat? If it is a female, you might consider a plakat male to put with her. They can sometimes be more aggressive. If she is a nice female, I wouldn't give up on her just yet.

OK I'll buy some Melafix...and how do I tell if my 'female' is really a male or not then?

....Oh no I've just remembered, she must be a 'she' because that pair spawned before - except nothing came of it.

EDIT: And he's built another bubble nest - even bigger than the one before!

Sorry you've had that problem. Hope the male is doing OK.

Perhaps the female is just into S&M or bondage??
