my whisper 20-40 filter is not whispering.lol.

i was sitten at the comp on the odball forums and my filter started buzzing in and out ex:BUZZ......BUZZ.BUZZ...BUZZ...DEAD
it just stoped.i took the impeller off and tried turning it and its not smooth.it sounds like sand is between tha axel and the weight and impeller.what should i do for both problems.

any help is much appreciated

Try pulling out the impeller & cleaning it & the case out, sounds like some nasty crud in there, perhaps sand. Impeller shafts do wear out, it may be time for a new one. I pull the filters case & all off my tanks, pull out the media, & rinse the case & impeller in the utility sink. This usually solves it.

If the shaft is worn beyond use, float the media in the tank to keep the bacteria alive until you get a new impellerand/or shaft. If you have an air pump, put an air stone under the media to cause some circulation.

If you have sand as a substrate, put a foam pre-filter over the intake, it will keep most of the sand out.

Try adjusting the flow, sometimes a little air bubble will get caught in there, making noise. If not, it sounds like time for some replacement parts.
