Ok Kyle is on his back in the aquarium and swimming around like that, now he`s resting on his side.he has some red in his eye too! This is a 2.5 gallon no plants, only betta, and heater

Yesterday he was fine too  :-(

I changed his water a few days ago.the heater is set at 86 Degrees.I have a few decoratioins in there,a turtle and a fake plant

I think he`s trying to hide right now and doesn`t swim bladder make them float up??He did come up for air and then lost his balance and how on the gravel on his side.I really don`t want to lose him he was my first fish :/

86 is a little high. And if he has a bacterial infection of any type, it'll worsen faster at that temp. I'd try to (slowly!) lower it to around 80.

How old is he?

Temp's at 86? That's a little high isn't it? Try lowering it to around 80 or 82. You'll have to do this over a period of a couple days though or else you'll stress him out and make him worse. I don't know if that could be causing his problem, but it seems like a good first step. If you don't have a thermometer you might want to get one. Heaters can say what they want, but may not be accurate. The floating thermometer is the best kind to go with and are only a couple bucks at Wal-Mart. How many days since the water change? Did you try to match the temp of the fresh water before the change? What's the water perameters? (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate) If he's having trouble getting to the surface, lower the water level so he doesn't have to struggle to breath. Is there any other symptoms? White poo, spots, etc....

Jeez, That is boiling the fish. Gradually decrease the temp so that he doesnt go into any more shock then he already is. Bettas should be kept around 70-78 degrees. Turn out the light and put some stresscoat in there and hope for the best.

70 is a bit low for a betta, Heather. It's okay if the temp only occasionally reaches that level, but I would never recommend that a betta's heater be set below about 72 or They are also happy in water as warm as 80 or 82 - in fact, that's the temperature usually used for breeding!

Alright I took the hood off, took out a little water and there`s no light. He keeps swiming on his side though, will he be ok??Would it e alright if I put some aged semi-cold dechlorinated water in?

Nope, let the temp drop on its own - if you do it too quickly, you'll shock the little guy. How old is he?

Just FYI....when treating for ICk you are instructed to raise the temp to 85, so at 86 that is not exactly boiling the fish...but they aren't meant to stay at that temp though. Just didn't want you to think you were boiling your fish).

Hope your guy gets better though..good luck.

Well i dont know how old he is I bought him at Petland but I know he`s prolly old enough to like make babies or something because he makes bubblenests and everything.Btw what`ll happen if he`s in shock anyways?
