I was feeding my 20 gal long planted tank of tiny fish. I saw a tiny fry swimming up to the surface not smart. My gourami got it. I am pretty sure it was a galaxy fry. They spawned in the think HC. Or could it have been a gourami fry that left the nest because they have been guarding an area. It was pretty exciting I am sure there are mo fry hiding in the HC I hope some grow big enough to be be a snack will see.

I have dwarf corys, galaxy danio, and sparkling gouramis.

Omg it's the sparkeling gouramis. I just saw one gourami spit out a fry on to my moss branch. Then the parents chased the galaxy danios away.

Wow

That's great news congrats! :D
Sorry to take over but I am trying to decide between Sparkling gouramis and honey gouramis for ages now and I just can't make up my mind. What are your opinions on them especially the sparkling gouramis?
If I got them how many should I get and what male:female ratio?
My tank is 15 gallon nano community with 8 Celestial Pearl Danio and 8 pygmy cory.

Anyway, do keep us all updated! Again Well Done so pleased for you :D :D :D

Sounds like my tank. The sparkeling gouramis are awesome little fish I would get them for sure. The honey is much bigger then the tiny sparkles mine are only an inch big basically almost the same size as the galaxy Danio aka Celestial Pearl Danio. The sparkeling gouramis are fun to watch and so pretty. they make sounds too.

As for stocking them. I Got very lucky and got a pair by picking 2 fish from The Lfs. You could get a group and when you see a pair just keep the pair. I think one pair is fine or a small group of 5. When spawning they are aggressive they chase other fish like crazy and will nip them.

Thanks I hope a fry or 2 live but I don't think any will my galaxy danios are too fast. If I can catch a fry I might put him in my bee shrimp tank to grow in there.

Wow sounds great. It's so nice to hear from someone has successfully owned these fish.
Regarding the nipping I assume that no damage is done? Is it better if they are the only top dwelling fish?

I have a bigger tank availiable that might be better for them but it contains Kuhli Loaches, rummy nose and a pair of peacock gobys. Would the gobys eat the gouramis with them being so small?
Thanks again. Hope you succeed with catching some fry! Xx
P.s. How often are they likely to spawn :)

The easiest rule to remember for fish is that usually, if a fish can fit in another fish's mouth it will eat it. Try to keep your fish as close to the same size as possible and you won't have an issue. Personally, I wouldn't put sparkling gouramis with gobies.

They were starting to spawn in a 5 gal tank but it did not work well. Then I moved them to a 20gal long with lots of plants and floating plants. They had a successful spawn in this tank. I have a 5 gal shrimp tank up and running with 6 small black bee shrimp. I could just put the fry I find in that tank and see what happens.

I can get fish to spawn no problem but I am awful at raising fry. Only fry I ever raised were a few Cory cats. It's really hard to raise fry.
