The fresh seafood ingredients in Omega One are particularly attractive to Bettas, since they thrive on a higher protein foods. The cold water marine proteins and fresh omega fats in Betta Buffet Flakes make it a nutritional must for all Bettas. Additionally, the protein binder in Omega One, which is not water soluble, results in a much cleaner environment, especially in a small tank.

Though a protein binder MAY help decrease in-tank wastes, I imagine it would probably make it harder for the betta to extract any of the proteins from the foods. Protein binding is a method used to help decrease protein degradation (for example in our blood streams). So, sure the food may have a higher protein proportion in it, but they bettas probably aren't getting any extra protein from it than from normal foods. Just my opinion, as I've done some studying on this in uni.

Read the ingredients on Omega One, then grab another major brand & read the ingredients. They are listed in order of the largest percentage. If it starts with fish meal & such, as opposed to starting with things like salmon & cod, you can tell which is the better food.

I use Omega One flakes for conditioning angels for breeding, as well as for younger fry when weaning off of bbs. The food for betta is probably as good as their regular flake, one of the best flakes on the market.

JOLT: I did my undergrad as a BS in biological sciences. Right now, I'm in medicine, but still another 4 years till I'll be a doctor. I did a lot of completely random classes in undergrad such as beekeeping, life strategy of plants, animal and plant breeding, but I also took mostly higher year molecular biology and microbiology courses on some very current techniques etc. I definitely loved the degree of flexibility in my undergrad degree because I knew the whole time I wouldn't be directly using much of the material as part of a career. it allowed me to take courses I was interested in rather than just courses I HAD to take :)
