Later in life when I can have a large tank to my liking and all that, I want fish that will live a while. So can anyone tell me some fish that live to be 5+ years?

I know goldfish can live for quite a while, and so can clown loaches, and I think oscars, too. I'm assuming many large catfsih will live long lives too, you know the 3 foot + ones.

Goldfish have an average lifespan of 15-20 years. Oscars are 10-15. The longest living goldfish ever recorded was 49 years old! He was won at a fair!

I had a 7 + year old Black moor

Alas, he pased away last saturday

:rip: :rip: :rip: :rip::rip: :rip: :rip: :rip::rip: :rip: :rip: :rip::rip:

all you have to do is take care of them the best you can and you can expect a long happy life for your fishy friends!!! :good: :good: :good: :good: :good: :good: :good:

The vast majority of fish should easily live 5-7 years if cared for properly, the exceptions to this would be things like bettas and killie fish which have short lifespans due to the seasonal nature of their natural habitat.
Larger fish such as arowana's, stingrays and big catfish will live up to 25 years given the right conditions.

In PFK years ago I read about a Betta Keeper who used a stirrer to chase his Bettas around with once a day and they had twice the life expectancy of a usual betta because of the extra exercise. Can't decide if its cruel really! not a practise I would do I don't think.

most 'community' fish will reach 5-7 years quite easily. the one's i didn't manage to kill with newbie errors from my first tank 5 years ago are still alive now.

Most bigger fish live longer, for example oscars live longer than guppies. I'd get an oscar, those guys are pretty cool! :D

and that but might as well tell him/her a few long lived fish

Which is basicly all of them bar annual killies, some livebearers and a few other inbred fish or fish that live in seasonal habitats. Nameing huge fish that live for 25+ years doesn't quite fill the criteria in my mind.
