Hey
Im going away for 3 days this weekend. I'm wondering if i could keep one of the 65 watt lights on for my 20 gallon nano.. i have 135 watts going through right now. I have a sabae anemone, gold star poylps, and bullseye mushrooms. Would they be ok if that 65 atinic ran constantly for the three days or should i quickly invest in a timer for my lights.

If you can get out to get a timer, they are very cheap and you've got yourself peace of mind. There's enough to worry about when you go away leaving a marine tank... feeding etc you don't need yet something else to potentially go wrong!

You would probably get away with it for 3 days but it may well stress out some of the occupants.

Cheers

I would get a cheap timer from a supermarket as if your lights are on for 3days you will be opening yourself up for increase algae growth & undue stress on livestock, plus a protential fire hazard of your lights over heating.

Good point, didn't think of the overheating aspect.

ok thanks!
I'll try to get one... Yeah thats the other thing... feeding...

If your fish eat flake and/or pellet, there are autofeeder options out there. I use one :)

Better to leave off for three days then on IMO.

Lack of a dark period is harmful to corals. An extended dark period can be harmful but three days is not a big issue and is used by many as a means of algae control. IME it is not the best thing to do with certain acro's. JME
