Don't laugh, some people are saying this is a good way to provide ammonia for a fishless cycle.

Human pee isn't the same as what's produced by fish. Urea is whats produced by humans and it is a modified from ammonia (NH3) to contain 2 nitrogenous groups, and is basically non toxic. Also, its somewhat more concentrated than ammonia from fish, as they need to release large quantitites of water to maintain osmotic balance.

What are you going on about? surely your not an expert on human pee too! I know what I talking about on this one. Human pee many well be more concentrated but your only adding a COUPLE of cup fulls of the fresh clear stuff, NOT filling the whole tank up with the yellow stuff!

I can see your worried about the osmotic balance and all that, but if you drink alot of water and have a couple of pee's to flush yourself out first you can collect a pretty good sample on the third visit. Just try it!

1) pH down makes water more acidic

2) Unless you're going to something that specifically needs a high / low pH, 7.6 is fine

3) Don't pee in your tank!

I don't care if you are an expert in fish keeping, but on this forum you are a newbie. It seems pretty suspicious that you don't know pH down causes acidic water. I don't think you should be telling people to pee in their tanks, as different people have different pee. Especially, if a person has a certain disorder or disease. It could easily kill the fish in the tank, NOT EVERYTHING WILL BE CONVERTED TO A NON-TOXIC SUBSTANCE.

If you have a disorder or disease or knob rot don't piss in the tank. Just use common sence.

hi all

wow what a post this is turning out to be

anyway a thing back on cycling

i tested my water today, so its been about 4 days since set up(not a long time i know)

and
ammonia - 0
nitrite - 0
nitrate - somwere betwenn 10 and 20

so i know it hasnt been long and its only a bit of nitrate, but does this mean it could of partially cycled or sumthing already?

i mean i checked them 3 days ago and all 3 were 0, and now nitrate is approx 15.


so what could this mean?

You can't cycle a tank in our days without mature filter media. If you haven't seen any Amonia / Nitrite in the tank, I'd add some more flakes.

mk its now thursday, 3 days since my last test,


and aluluia my ammonia is somewere between .5 and .1 , lol not alot but its a start

so ould this be the beggining of the spike?
shall i check in a few hours to see if its gone up, or shall i check tommorow?
shall i test my nitrites to see if they have risen or wont that be worth it till atleast a few more days.


lol ive never been so happy to see ammonia in my tank.

You need to keep adding flakes as the bacteria that has developed to convert Amonia to Nitrite still needs a source of Amonia to stay alive.

ok i tested the ammonia today, its around 1.


so ive added more flakes and i will be everyday to raise the ammonia and feedthe bacteria.

so ill keep u all updated, just to see if my progress is normal.

Im no scientist butIM pretty sure there are very few diseaseas that are transferred through pee, especially from human to fish.

It may seem a little crazy peeing into your fish tank, but unless any of you have tried it and failed, dont knock it. It just may work.

I added flakes to my 120 litre tank to start of the cycle I just added enough flakes to feed about 10 little fish and I added it every day for four days and then left the tank to it's own devices for two weeks constantly checking the levels.
