is this ok

50g tank planted

2 silver dollars
1 Angel
1 kissing gouami
1 leopard plec
6 corys
5-10 golden barbs
2 dwarf goramis
2 more small plecs and a another shoal of 5 small fish

how do i find out the amount of gallons in a new tank i can't remember?

I wouldn't recommend more than one plec in a tank. For one, the common ones grow very long (I'm sure I've seen them about a foot long, if not more) and I've heard that plec's don't get along with their own species.

Silver dollars should be in a shoal, otherwise you'll practically never see them. They're quite shy if kept in pairs.

I'd check about keeping two types of gourami from people with experience. The males can be aggressive towards each other, and I'm not sure whether or not they are aggressive towards males of other gourami species too. I'm not sure about keeping gouramis with angels either. Some people have had no trouble with that combination (including me, keeping three-spot gouramis with angels), others have had one of them chase the other. Usually it's the angels that cause trouble, or so I've heard.

The cories are fine and so are the barbs, but note that golden barbs can grow quite large, 4 inches, so keeping 10 of them would be too much for a 50 gal.

With a large tank you should have no problem with mixing a few dwarf gouramis and regular gouramis but I don't know how angel will get along with the gouramis. They both occupy the same space but angels seem a bit more agressive....and of course if they are large they will eat the neons.

It looks okay to me, but I don't have too much experience with some of the fish. How big does a leopard plec get? I have a common plec that I will have to find a new home for soon. He is driving me crazy in my 55gal. at the moment lol the big beast! I want to get a bigger tank(best idea lol) take him to lfs get nothing for him & they will resell him to some other dummy lol ( that's how I got him to begin with lol)

Hey Ryan I would ad that the kissing gourami needs a buddie. If not he/she will try smooching other fish (which seems to offend them as much as a human being smooched by some stranger) In an older tank I had 2 pink gourami's in a tank with the meanest Angel ever and after a day or 2 they established territory.

As to the question of getting along amongst the gourami from what I have read and seen the kissing gourami's can be kind of aggressive as for the others I am not familiar with the dwarf's. There are a number of really good books out there on Anabanatiods, probably one at the library.

Good Luck

kissing gouramis are actually territoral. the kissing is not affection and is actually a way of the males testing each others strength. my kissing gourami killed the other one in the pair. so i am not getting another because it seems happier now

One of my fish-keeping friends/professors keep Plecs. In each of his tanks he has two Plecs. The tanks are large-ish: at least 55 gallons, maybe larger. In one tank the only two residents are the two common Plecs. They are fairly large. A large Oscar and two smaller common Plecs reside in the other tank. I'm guessing he has no problems keeping Plecs together, as he hasn't mentioned it to me and he still has them together!

My observations...

Hi! I have 2 angels and 2 platinum gouramis in my tank and have never had a problem. I've never even seen one of them even try and bother the other one. They eat wafers together with no fights or problems even though my gourami will scare some of the smaller fish away. I have read though that some of the larger gouramis will harrass the dwarfs. I don't have any dwarfs just because of what I read but I did decide once to try and add 2 more platinum gouramis to the 2 I had and what a nightmare that was. Total chaos, within an hour I took them back to the lfs. You may not have any problem though if you get them together and they havnet established territory yet. Good Luck!!!!!!!! Leah

Hi Ryan :)

I think you may have a problem with that kissing gourami. It can grow to 8" and it is probably not a good idea to have it in the tank with dwarf gouramis which are only 2". As for the small schooling fish, if they will fit in his mouth, he will eat them.

Here is a link that will tell you how many gallons a tank holds if you know its dimensions (and vice versa):
