I...call the manager back there, complain and make sure something's going to be done. Then I buy the betta and tell the manager that I shouldn't buy it because of the way he/she let's their store operate and I don't want to encourage such behavior.
Most of my bettas are Wal-Mart rescues,it's not their fault they're stuck there rotting away.
Exactly what I would have said. I mean, if he's a really rare find, I would regret not buying him. But I would definitely complain to the manager- it can't hurt, can it?
We were in the fish dept at one of our local Walmarts today and noticed that the tanks were actually clean, the fish looked healthy and the betta cups looked decent. That was never the case in the past. There was also an employee in the fish dept helping customers. She said today is her first day and she's still learning about fish. Looks like the complaining is beginning to pay off.
I voted to not buy. I know one fish wont matter but at least I know I didnt support it. If a alot more people felt the same way it would make a difference. The best place in my area for fish is Petland. It is a chain store but they have the best looking fish, there tanks are cleaner, some of the people there know what there talking about (Just find out which ones and stick to them). There is one other family owned shop and they are bad, very bad. They will feed sick fish to bigger fish, have some nasty tanks and fish that are not so healthy.
