WEll, :grr: that's exactly what happened tonight at my walmart. :-( I didn't buy the lil guy. I felt bad for not saving him, but also didn't want to support walmart...so conflicted............... Tell me what you guys think about it

I...call the manager back there, complain and make sure something's going to be done. Then I buy the betta and tell the manager that I shouldn't buy it because of the way he/she let's their store operate and I don't want to encourage such behavior.

Most of my bettas are Wal-Mart rescues,it's not their fault they're stuck there rotting away.

I actually did complain to management every time I saw this type of thing. After a few times they have cleaned up their act. Of course, I wasn't the only one to complain. Remember; "the squeaky wheel gets the oil" ;)

I said I would buy him, but that's if I even were in a Walmart. I hate that store for far more than how they treat fish, they are ruining this country by selling out companies to overseas investors.

I said I would buy him to save him but I would also put notes on the tanks warning other people that these guys were sick, and I would also complain to the manager.

i voted complain to management. my wally-world isn't too bad. their general tanks are in decent shape. their betta cups need some help, though. i stopped there last night on the way home from work for some things. i always look at the fish when i'm there. all the betta cups were almost 1/2 full (poor guys couldn't show their fins, could barely swim), the water was dirty, and the poor little guys looked sad. i almost bought one (a real pretty blue one) to rescue him, but i don't know about their fish. there was some stuff in the cups, too, floating around and sitting on the botttom of the cups.

I never shop at Walmart. Ever.

Walmart is everything that is wrong with capitalism in America.

What happens when "saving" all those bettas at Walmart drives the LFS out of business? The folks that actually care for the fish and the customer deserver your business. Shop at their store. Paying $1-2 more for your new pet isn't asking that much, is it?

I agree with you about what Wal-Mart is doing to our economy, but sometimes I have to shop there 'cause I can't get some products anywhere else.
Before Sam Walton died, they weren't as bad. They had a lot of products that were made in the USA and didn't do some of the things that they do now. I wish he had a sucessor that believed in what he did and stuck to it. :/

Wal-mart is the #1 company in america. It's definaly not hurting our economy. Without it, who knows how bad(our economy) it would be right now...(couldn't even imagine)

Where I am living there are a few walmarts, meijers, petsmarts within a few miles of my lfs and it doesnt look like "Aquarium World" will be going out of business anytime soon. This post was for bettas also, and I feel that if you had a nice looking betta on your hands and you wanted it, you should have gotten it. Bettas are giving no special treatment at my lfs. They are in the same small cups, on the same shelf, looking as lifeless as ever. I actually saw a male betta in a walmart tank with only a few fish that looked great!

:edit: by all means im not saying to go and buy all of your fish @ walmart, and I'm not trying to defend its fish keeping, and I do believe that it needs to be changed...but i think there should be some exceptions sometimes.

Walmart is going to keep selling fish no matter what. I would say complain about it, get your fish and go about your way. :D

I would definitely buy the betta, but I would take my camera phone and snap pics of everything and post them to the public and gripe to the dude in charge of pets. *again* :/

I don't think a three dollar betta will be the end of the lfs business. I'm more than faithful to my lfs, that's the only place that I buy fish, besides online and the bettas at Wal-mart.

If I wanted it, I'd probably buy the beta.

That said, it would be interesting to see the honest votes of people if the poll described the same condition, but didn't mention 'WalMart'. Say, if the store was "Petchain" or even "Joe and Betty's Local Mom and Pop Store", but with the same filthy tanks and dead fish.

I think what Olive meant was that Wal-mart buys almost everything overseas in Malaysia and China, thus creating more jobs over there, and running business's over here out of business. Because Wal-mart is so huge, if They stop buying a certain product from a company, the company will likely suffer because Wal-Mart was probably their biggest buyer.
As for the Betta, I voted complain to management. I personally wouldn't want to buy the Betta, but if you really wanted, you could try saving him.
